About the Position: The incumbent will serve as an Architect and Project Architect with responsibilities that include the design of plans for Civil Works, Army, Air Force and DOD Medical Facilities. The incumbent will provide leadership and serve as the principle point of contact for design teams within the Engineering Division. This position is located in Mobile, Alabama at the US Army Corps of Engineers District office in downtown Mobile.

Duties

Coordinate project tasks with other engineers to assist proper integration of architectural and building envelope systems. Investigate field operations during the construction of a facility to assess problems associated with architectural design. Provide architectural design criteria for the construction and/or renovation of facilities in effort to meet mission and/or environmental requirements. Review designs to verify compliance with building codes, standards, and/or requirements. Verify life cycle cost analysis techniquest to determine cost effectiveness of building envelope and/or construction systems. Analyze building systems for architectural code compliance. Assist project from the design phase through the completion of construction in order to meet established deadlines. Serve as a point of contact for design teams for engineering projects during the design and/or construction phase.

Additional information about transcripts is in this document. Basic Requirement for an Architect: A. Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in architecture or in a related field that included 60 semester hours of course work in architecture or related disciplines of which at least (1) 30 semester hours were in architectural design, and (2) 6 semester hours were in each of the following: structural technology, properties of materials and methods of construction, and environmental control systems. OR B. Combination of Education and Experience: College-level education, training, and/or technical experience that furnished (1) a thorough knowledge of the arts and sciences underlying professional architecture, and (2) a good understanding, both theoretical and practical, of the architectural principles, methods, and techniques and their applications to the design and construction or improvement of buildings. The adequacy of such background must be demonstrated by at least one of the following: (1) Related Curriculum - Degree in architectural engineering provided the completed course work in architectural engineering provided knowledge, skills, and abilities substantially equivalent to those provided in the courses specified in statement A above, or (2) Experience: 1 year of experience in an architect's office or in architectural work for each year short of graduation from a program of study in architecture. In the absence of any college courses, 5 years of such experience is required. This experience must have demonstrated that you have acquired a thorough knowledge of the fundamental principles and theories of professional architecture. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: 1.0 Performing as a Project Architect responsible for the design of floor plans, life safety plans, reflected ceiling plans, roof plans, building elevations and cross sections, wall sections and types, wall, column, roof, casework, doors, windows, and finish schedules for medical facilities; 2.0 Assisting as a point of contact for design teams and interacting with other designers, project managers and top organization officials to resolve conflicts in criteria, develop design and contracting strategies; 3.0 Developing a coordinated design which results in advertising, contract award, construction and/or renovation of facilities. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted. Selective Placement Factor This position includes a Selective Placement Factor (skill, knowledge, ability or other worker characteristic basic to and essential for satisfactory performance of the job). Selective Placement Factors are a prerequisite to appointment and represent minimum requirements for a position. Applicants who do not meet it are ineligible for further consideration. The selective placement factor for this position is: Registration or Licensure in Professional Architect.
