You will serve as a ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION SPECIALIST in the Environmental Division of NAVFAC SOUTHWEST.

Duties

You will work on environmental protection projects of complex cope involving analysis, development, implementation, and management of environmental programs. You will serve as command technical expert in one or more program or function areas and also plan, implement, or monitor other listed environmental programs. You will maintain knowledge/oversight of compliance status including inspection discrepancies, status of corrective actions, and permit compliance data. You will respond to and oversee spill response team actions. You will provide technical expertise in resolving compliance issues with regulators. You will conduct training and briefings for tenants/customers regarding environmental compliance requirements and solutions for preventing reoccurrence.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver’s license.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • You will be required to complete training, obtain, and maintain a government credit card for travel and travel-related purchases.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • You will be required to complete ethics orientation within three months of appointment and submit a Confidential Financial Disclosure Report, OGE-450, within 30 days of appointment.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Overseeing a variety of environmental protection programs (i.e. hazardous waste program, asbestos abatement, pollution prevention, permit management, etc.) 2) Providing advisory support on various environmental laws, regulations, and standards to support customer, program, and regulatory requirements, 3) Performing site inspections to evaluate compliance with program requirements and regulations; 4) Providing input to supported customers and management on how to correct compliance deficiencies and track progress to ensure follow-up/completion; 5) Communicating with a wide variety of contacts in order to clarify, interpret, and advise on environmental laws, regulations, policies, and guidance, with a focus on Federal, State, and Local Hazardous Waste regulations and laws. **NOTE** This information must be supported by your resume in order to be considered for the position.
