You will serve as a Environmental Protection Specialist in the Environmental Division of NAVFAC SOUTHWEST.

Duties

You will disseminate updated information about environmental and hazard substances to managers and personnel. You will coordinate the preparation of requests to abate pollution sources to minimize or eliminate environmental liabilities. You will establish goals, objectives, or operating plans to maintain compliance with environmental regulations. You will work on environmental protection projects of complex scope involving analysis, development, implementation and management of environmental programs. You will serve as a command technical expert in one or more program or functional areas and also plan, implement, or monitor other environmental programs. You will provide day-to-day environmental compliance and oversight, with a focus on tank management. You will manage installation aspects of environmental plans and permits, by ensuring compliance with permits issued by local, State, and Federal regulatory agencies. You will provide technical expertise in resolving compliance issues with regulators. You will implement corrective action in compliance with regulations.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States drivers license.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes as necessary during field visits.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • You will be required to complete training, obtain, and maintain a government credit card for travel and travel-related purchases.
  • You will be required to complete ethics orientation within three months of appointment and submit a Confidential Financial Disclosure Report, OGE-450, within 30 days of appointment.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Administering or assisting in the administration of a Spill and Tank Management Program; 2) Providing advisory support on various media, as well as environmental laws, regulations and policies, with a focus on Federal Spill Prevention Control and Countermeasure regulations and California Aboveground Petroleum Storage Act regulations;3) Performing site/tank inspections to evaluate compliance with program requirements and regulations; 4) Gathering and maintaining data necessary for completing recurring regulatory environmental reporting; and 5) Providing input to supported customers and management on how to correct compliance deficiencies and track progress to ensure follow-up/completion.
