This position is located in Refugee, Asylum, and International Operations, Asylum Division, Los Angeles Asylum Office. As a CIS CLERK (OA), you will review various types of applications and petitions for benefits under the Immigration and Nationality Act and prepare replies to applicants requesting additional information.

Duties

Conduct sensitive file reviews with numerous Federal, state and local agencies and preparing case file records and related documents to be routed to other offices. Search for missing files/records and placing loose documents into appropriate case files. Perform general mail handling and distribution including sorting, opening, date stamping, classifying, processing, and routing. Prepare, maintain, and submit statistical and required reports to supervisor. Use computer record systems to search, create and update information.

Qualifications

The qualifications for this position must be met by 11:59 PM (Eastern Time) on 08/05/2024. Time in Grade does not apply to Delegated Examining Announcements, any reference to Time in Grade in the questionnaire will not apply to the rating and ranking of applicants. GS-05: You qualify at the GS-05 level if you possess one (1) year of specialized experience, equivalent to at least the GS-04 level in the federal government, which has equipped you with the skills needed to successfully perform the duties of the position. You must have experience performing the following duties: Reviewing files for accuracy, validity, and proper form and format; Using various computer software programs to produce office support materials; Setting up and maintaining subject matter files, technical instructions, and/or operating procedures OR You may substitute successful completion of 4 years above high school for the experience required at the GS-05 grade level. This education must have been obtained from an accredited college or university. One year of fulltime undergraduate study is defined as 30 semester or 45 quarter hours.
