Duties

You will install, repair, and maintain various electrical systems, controls, and equipment. You will maintain and repair installed electrical systems such as lighting fixtures and wiring, power fixtures and wiring, power sources, fire alarm systems, and/or services battery packs for emergency power systems. You will locate broken, worn, damaged, or poorly operating wiring, fixtures, controls, and equipment through visual checks or through use of a small variety of test equipment. You will make repairs by removing, replacing, tightening, splicing, soldering, and insulating defective wiring, controls, equipment, and fixtures. You will rearrange and install items such as outlets, switches, light fixtures, regulators, and circuit breakers. You will use tools such as screwdrivers, pliers, wire cutters, strippers, drills, soldering irons, and manual or power conduit benders and threaders. You will use a limited variety of test equipment such as meggers, test lamps, and ammeters. You will utilize safety practices and procedures following established safety rules and regulations and maintain a safe and clean work environment.

Requirements

  • This position requires you to frequently lift parts and equipment that weigh up to 20 pounds and occasionally lift items that weigh over 40 pounds with assistance from other workers.
  • This position may require you to work on scaffolding or cranes at heights of 30 or more feet, or in close quarters such as manholes or attics.
  • This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.
  • This position requires employee to work under adverse environmental conditions.
  • This position requires the you to have the ability to discern color, contrast, and depth.
  • You will be required to possess and maintain a current valid United States driver’s license.
  • This position requires which requires a State Criminal History Repository (SCHR) check to be completed on any person selected for this position. I am willing and able to submit to a SCHR check.

Qualifications

Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the job elements and screen out listed below. This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for this position is: Journeymen level expertise as an Electrician in a dynamic environment or a public works or industrial environment; Knowledge of technical practices in order to plan, lay out, install, modify, troubleshoot, and repair a variety of complete systems; Knowledge of electrical and electronic theory and instruments used in shop and trade practices; Knowledge of electrical equipment, i.e., test lamps, multimeters, circuit analyzers, circuit breaker testers, voltage recording meters, meggers, watt meters, ohmmeters, and ammeters; Skill in troubleshooting and tracing hard-to-locate defects or problems and ability to install, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain various electrical systems, controls, and equipment without more than normal supervision; Ability to use electrical drawings, blueprints, engineering drawings, and wiring diagrams; Knowledge of and skill in operating one or more gasoline, diesel, or electric powered wheeled vehicles with a GVW of up to 10,000 pounds, such as pickup trucks, panel trucks, flatbed trucks and ability to operate an elevated work platform (scissor lift).
