Duties
As a Public Affairs Specialist, you will:
Manage PIH's presence at conferences and industry events including developing conference strategies for promoting PIH programs, policies and new initiatives.
Take an active role in pitching participation of PIH officials in industry conferences and events.
Develop and maintain relationships with industry stakeholders including the Public Housing Authorities, state, city, and local officials, and other housing policy organizations.
Manage conference attendance and event planning, including identifying appropriate conferences for participation, pitching panel participation for senior executives, assisting in booth design, securing exhibit spaces, and managing conference related logistics.
Develop, manage or assist in the development of employee-wide events and initiatives, such as strategic plan roll out and all-staff meetings.
Qualifications
You must meet the following requirements within 30 days of the closing date of this announcement.
Specialized Experience: For the GS-13 grade level, you must have one year (52 full weeks) of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized Experience for this position includes:
Experience communicating principles, methods and techniques that relate to the public affairs; AND
- Experience writing, editing and disseminating information for a large organization concerning issues such as public housing, affordable housing and public/private partnerships; AND
- Experience using a variety of media outlets including social media for the purpose of conveying information about programs, policies and initiatives; AND
- Experience establishing and maintaining working relationships with high level officials, managers, employees and external stakeholders; AND
- Experience serving as a spokesperson to outside organizations and communicating issues in a public setting.
Experience may have been gained in either the public, private sector or volunteer service. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis. Time-in-Grade: In addition to the above requirements, you must meet the following time-in-grade requirement, if applicable:
For the GS-13 you must have been at the GS-12 level for 52 weeks.
Time After Competitive Appointment: Candidates who are current Federal employees serving on a non-temporary competitive appointment must have served at least three months in that appointment.
