You will serve as a Materials Handler in the Materials Branch (1410.3), Business Operations Division (1410), Naval Foundry and Propeller Center (NFPC) (1400) of NORFOLK NAVAL SHIPYARD.
Duties
You will operate manual handling equipment and forklifts.
You will utilize methods in processing, handling and storing material.
You will maintain and update material as required by the Hazardous Material Communication Standards.
You will track and receipt project work and work request material requirements.
You will conduct scheduled and unscheduled inventory reviews to ensure quality control and correct discrepancies in a timely manner.
Requirements
- Must be a US Citizen.
- Must be determined suitable for federal employment.

- You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver’s license.
- You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
- You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
- You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
- You will be required to lift and/or carry up to 40lbs.
- I will be required to climb ladders and scaffolding.
- You will be required to work an uncommon tour of duty (may include weekend, nights, overtime, or holidays).

Receiving material manually and systemically into warehouse from selected carriers and/or company for issuance to shop personnel, disposition to stock, or shipment to another location;
Shipping methods and carrier requirements, and utilizing such for the shipment of crates, parcels and miscellaneous material;
Utilizing general and applicable inventory control methods and standards pertaining to and accounting for material ordered for general consumption and storage, as well as marking and identifying material for storage;
Operating material handling conveyances, including forklifts, mechanized and manual pallet jacks, and delivery carts;
Organizing, creating and maintain files, process packing lists and shipping documents, also including creating and administering documents;
Communicating effectively both verbally and orally and proficiency in Microsoft Office.
