This position is located in the Department of Defense (DoD) Office of the Inspector General (OIG), Mission Support Team, Data Analytics Team (DAT) and reports directly to the Assistant Inspector General (SES) for Data Analytics. This position manages a team of data engineers and IT specialists that work with other technical and subject matter expert teams to develop and maintain custom-built oversight tools that ultimately improve the efficiency and effectiveness of DoD OIG's oversight mission.
Duties
Manage staff in the researching, planning, and execution of application development for oversight projects.
Responsible for administrative tasks and duties in support of direct reports, which includes delegation, quality control, and critical feedback.
Ensures that staff follows data engineering best practices, oversight standards, security protocols, and IT security policy, along with regular updates and recommendations to the Senior Leaders on progress and courses of action.
Maintain knowledge of engineering and data science technology trends and contributes that knowledge at a big-picture level to improve application development and deployment while also providing feedback on modeling decisions and interpretation.
Balances technical nuances across domains of data, math/stats, machine learning, and software to connect them to business context and value for DoD OIG oversight components.
Execute special assignments from OIG and CIGIE Senior Leaders, working with the team to establish best practices for cooperation, and regular supervisory administrative tasks.

- This national security position, which may require access to classified information, requires a favorable suitability review and security clearance as a condition of employment. Failure to maintain security eligibility may result in termination.
- Incumbent is required to submit to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment, and is subject to random drug testing for the duration of service with DoD OIG.
- The incumbent must adhere to the DoD Standards of Conduct.
Qualifications
Applicants must demonstrate that they meet the Basic AND Minimum Qualification requirements as noted below.
Basic Requirements:
Degree: Mathematics, statistics, computer science, data science or field directly related to the position. The degree must be in a major field of study (at least at the baccalaureate level) that is appropriate for the position.
or
Combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major field of study (30 semester hours) as shown in paragraph above, plus additional education or appropriate experience.
Time in grade:
For entry at the GS-14 level, status applicants must have served 52 weeks as a GS-13 or equivalent or higher grade, in the Federal Service.
Specialized Experience:
You must have at least 52 weeks of specialized experience at the GS-13 level in the federal service or at an equivalent level. Specialized experience is defined as: Demonstrated experience managing or leading the development of major data engineering projects in a production environment.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience.
Only experience and/or education obtained by the closing date of this announcement will be considered.
Education
There is no substitution of education for the qualifying specializing experience at this grade level.

GRADUATE EDUCATION: One academic year of graduate education is considered to be the number of credits hours your graduate school has determined to represent one academic year of full-time study. Such study may have been performed on a full-time or part-time basis. If you cannot obtain your graduate school's definition of one year of graduate study, 18 semester hours (or 27 quarter hours) should be considered as satisfying the requirement for one year of full-time graduate study.
