This position is located within the Textile Care Processing Facility of the Environmental Management Services Division within Veterans Healthcare System of the Ozarks, Fayetteville, Arkansas. This position is under the direct supervision of the Textile Care Manager or designee. This position performs the primary work involving receiving, sorting, and marking soiled textiles and apparel; processing flatwork and roughdry items; assembling carts for delivery.
Duties
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
Counts various items to accurately record on linen records.
Folds roughdry laundry according to set procedures.
Identifies stained, worn or torn items.
Uses flatwork iron to press all applicable items with the exception of sheets and garments.
Feeds items into flatwork ironer.
Keeps pace with the speed of the flatwork ironer.
Recognizes different types of fabrics: synthetic, silk, wool and cotton.
Sorts laundry by the wash ability of the fabrics.
Assesses linen to ensure standards for further processing are met.
Keeps work area neat and orderly at all times.
Carries out specific tasks as assigned by supervisor.
Shakes out tangled, semi-dry items.
Adheres to all safety warning signs.
Uses appropriate lifting mechanics, when lifting heavy items.
Makes note of any and fire/safety hazards identified during shift and notifies supervisor.
Performs duties having a sequence of several related tasks on basis of oral instruction.
Reads and understands written direction, to carry out VA policies and procedures as related to the job.
Understands infection control procedures.
All other duties assigned by management.
Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 7:00 am - 3:30 pm (subject to change based on the needs of the agency)

Physical Requirements: Laundry Worker will be exposed to repetitive motion of arms, wrist, and hands and is required to perform simple grasping and fine hand manipulation, reaching outward and above the shoulder, lift soiled linen bags up and onto soiled linen carts and frequent stooping, bending, twisting and kneeling, standing, walking, sitting. Must be able to lift and carry fifty (50) pounds. Must be able to stand and walk consistently, perform light to moderate bending and stooping, and able to wear PPE for extended period of time as dictated by the work setting. Will be involved with the loading, unloading, and transporting clean and soiled linen carts weighing up to 700 pounds.
