The purpose of this position is to support the mission of the Patient Education Resource Center (PERC) and veteran health education. The position also includes providing direct services to the public and technical services that support PERC and related information programs and operations.
Duties
Maintains files on all vendors, contracts, education material and supply costs.
Orders materials (journals and books) using agency procurement manuals, periodical and subscription price lists, and basic references.
Tracks and reports expenditures for these materials and submits information for inclusion in annual reports.
Receives new patient-focused educational materials and completes technical processing, making items ready for use in the resource center and throughout the medical center.
Collects, organizes, analyzes, and processes course administrative data to produce course documentation.
Assists in developing questionnaires for surveying students and nursing employees.
Performs research, analysis, and reporting functions. Performs research on various topics related to patient education.
Assesses instructional material such as charts, tables, etc., for quality, format, and clarity, and recommends changes.
Assists patients, families, and other clientele in the use of resources by locating materials and showing users how to find items in the public access catalog, periodical index, electronic storage files, and other finding aids.
Maintains a variety of standard reference sources to answer ready reference questions.
Maintains public access catalog, periodical index, and other finding aids to assist patients and their families as well as other clientele in accessing the Center's collection.
Provides services to customers, answering questions about services, and other basic reference questions.
Provides information to faculty and staff on established policy and procedures assuring that such information is accurate and not of a classified nature.
Performs all circulation duties, including providing instruction on the use of the resource center to patrons regarding rules and regulations, borrowing privileges and checkout procedures.
Provides on-demand user orientation and assists individuals or groups seeking to learn more about the resources and services.
Determines the appropriateness of data, and summarizes and presents data in an understandable format, using variety of sources.
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday 7:30am-4:00pm, subject to change based on the needs of the facility.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 08/06/2024.
Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-7 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-6. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment.
You may qualify based on your experience as described below:
Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-6 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to:
Experience in time keeping duties using VATAS and/or WEBTA
Experience with fund control point (FCP) Clerk duties: creates requests, maintains Control Point funds records, creating and Funding Sub-control points.
Experience using Microsoft Office applications such as Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.

Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Physical Requirements: Approximately 50 percent of work is performed while sitting at a desk in conferences, briefings, meetings, simulation space, classrooms and the equivalent. The work is primarily sedentary but may require prolonged physical activity and standing in front of groups and limited moving of furniture and lifting moderately heavy objects, such as boxes of PERC books, periodicals and other materials. Must work multiple projects simultaneously and handle occasional high levels of stress and conflicting priorities.
