This position is located at the Pine Ridge Service Unit, in Pine Ridge, SD. The position performs primary functions of a professional nurse supervisory in assessing, planning, implementing. Directing and evaluating the care of patients in the Ambulatory Care Unit, specifically the Women's Health Clinic, Podiatry, Orthopedics, LaCreek Clinic, Manderson Clinic, and other intermittent specialty clinics as assigned.

Responsible for ongoing quality/performance improvement process related to patient care. Participates and contributes to a unified QAPI program. Participates and contributes to hospital performance improvement activities.
The incumbent plans work to be accomplished by subordinates and prepares schedules for completion of work; assigns work to subordinates based on priorities and capabilities of employees; evaluates work performance of subordinates; advise or counsel employees on work and administrative matters; interview candidates for positions, recommend appointments, promotions or reassignment to such positions; hear and resolve complaints from employees; effect minor disciplinary measures, such as warnings and reprimands; identify training needs of employees; approve leave, etc.
Participates in the planning, implementation, coordination and evaluation of nursing and personnel educational activities that directly and indirectly affect patient care outcomes.
Plans and coordinated the work operations of the clinics with programmatic responsibility, such as policy and procedure development and reviews, quality improvement development implementation and evaluation, infection control and other related supervisory functions.
Develop work performance plans which reflect specific, measurable, attainable, realistic, and timely in order to evaluate the work performance of all subordinates. Evaluates nursing care by reviewing nursing assignments, patient classifications, patient chart audits, and patient satisfaction surveys.
Qualifications

Education
A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education(external link), Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs(external link), Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education(external link), or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education(external link) at the time the degree was obtained.
Degree from Foreign Nursing School: Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools (external link) is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools.
Licensure
For all grade levels and positions, applicants must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination(external link). In addition, they must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
Basic Requirements for the GS-12 (or equivalent) Grade Level
In addition to the mandatory license and education described above under Basic Requirements applicants must have at least one or more full years of professional nursing experience that is equivalent to the next lower grade level.
In addition, to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below-
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Knowledge of nursing concepts, skills and principles necessary to provide professional services including; Assessment and therapeutic skills; teaching principles, pharmaceuticals including their desired effects and complications; medical equipment and skills necessary to use them; diagnostic procedures and tests including their interpretation and performance and counseling skills. Demonstrated management, administrative and supervisory skills necessary to effectively manage nursing services in the medical clinic and to prioritize these services according to patient needs and outcomes. Ability to communicate verbally with individuals and groups from various educational economic, and cultural backgrounds.
Time In Grade (Merit Promotion Candidates Only)
Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
