This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce
to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.
About the Position: Incumbent is assigned to the Navigation Branch, to serve in a dual capacity as (1) Team leader and specialist in MVM operations and (2) alternate dredge inspector.
Duties
Serves as team leader in planning, managing, coordinating, and controlling the varied activities of the team.
Develop guidelines for various inspection jobs and modifies these guidelines frequently as needed.
Conduct field surveys of the Mississippi River and tributaries in the Memphis District to ensure navigable channels are maintained.
Perform maintenance and upkeep on the survey boat and accompanying equipment.
Schedule dredging operations at worksites as required by river conditions.
Performs monthly inspections and required maintenance of associated facilities and waterways.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires lifting of up to 50 lbs.

- Pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.

Specialized Experience for GS-10:To qualify on your work experience, your resume must describe at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 level in the Federal service which includes: 1) Assisting with inspection of Maintenance of Dredging Operations 2) Conduct field surveys to ensure navigable channels are maintained; and 3) assisting in the preparation of reports, detailing surveys, repairs, and sources of funding.
Specialized Experience for GS-11:To qualify on your work experience, your resume must describe at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-10 level in the Federal service which includes: 1) Developing guidelines for various dredging inspection jobs; 2) Providing technical and administrative guidance within the organization; 3) Preparing reports detailing surveys, availability of funding and recommended repairs and maintenance; and 4) Leading work teams to accomplish dredging and river construction work.
