About the Position: This position is within the Patient Administration Records Department located at Brook Army Medical Center, San Antonio TX.

Duties
Analyze outpatient treatment/health records for completeness and in accordance with regulations and requirements.
Utilizing automated medical records systems to retrieved and input information.
Applies knowledge of medical record practice, medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, the major disease processes, relationships of internal parts of records and knowledge of legal requirements for consent for release of treatment information.
Verifies patient identification using DEERS rapids system and determines eligibility for care through a military medical facility.
Obtains necessary information from new patients for creation of medical records and file contents.
Answers phone calls from staff, patients and/or public and greets visitors.
Prepares and processes authorization for disclosure of documents on all requests for copies of medical records from patients, physicians, or other medical treatment facilities.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- A Personnel Security Investigation is required.
- Selectees will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
- A pre-placement medical examination is required.
- Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
- Tuberculosis screening is required for all positions with direct patient contact.
- This position has a requirement to lift up to 35 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. General Experience: One year of general experience. General experience is progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled, such as, utilizing medical records automated systems to input and retrieve information; understanding of medical terminology to review medical information for continuity of care; applying rules and regulations concerning the release of patient information.

Education: Two years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of by 60. Add the two percentages.

FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
