About the Position: This position is within the DIR of Patient Administration Records located at Brooke Army Medical Center, San Antonio TX. This is a Direct Hire Solicitation

Duties

Ensure the timely completion and adequacy of the medical charts of inpatient and Ambulatory Patient Visit patients discharged from the hospital. Support the completion of discharged Inpatient and Ambulatory Patient Visit type records. Reconciles disposition report with records received from the wards. Instructs and trains ward clerks, paraprofessionals, and the professional staff for compliance with the medical records procedures and policies. Applies a practical knowledge of medical terminology, relevant policy references, and procedures.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • A Personnel Security Investigation is required.
  • Selectees will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
  • This position is subject to annual Tuberculosis.
  • This position has been designated "Mission Essential". In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
  • This position has been designated as Inclement Weather essential. Incumbent is expected to work during weather emergencies.

Qualifications

Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Additional information about transcripts is in this document. General Experience: Three years progressively responsible experience, 1 year of which was equivalent to at least the GS-04 grade level, which includes: verifying patients records for completeness; using medical automated systems to update and correct patient records; training medical staff on medical records procedures and policies; applying knowledge of medical terminology; responding to staff in person or through messaging instruction on how to correct entries in the health record. This definition of general experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04). OR Education: Four-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 36. Then divide your total number of completed undergraduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 120. Add the two percentages.
