You will serve as a TELECOMMUNICATIONS SPECIALIST in the Executive Support Staff (Code 1100), Security and Fire Office (Code
1120), Technical Division (Code 1125), of NORFOLK NAVAL SHIPYARD.
Duties
You will serve as technical specialist on committees and working groups to identify and resolve applicable electronic and communications issues.
You will consider alternatives and applies various approaches to problem solving according to the communications requirements for each specific situation.
You will control and coordinate segments of the electromagnetic frequency spectrum allocated to the Shipyard for long-term and short-term use.
You will ensure that only assigned radio frequencies are used by installation and tenant activities, and that frequency assignment and records are kept current for all radiating devices on the installation.
You will submit frequency actions through the appropriate frequency management channels.
You will maintain a point-of-contact list of frequency users on the installation.
You will coordinate emergency communications planning and operations with other services, federal agencies, and state and local authorities having emergency
management responsibilities within the local area
Requirements

- You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
- You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
- Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
Qualifications
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-5 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
Experience evaluating the inter-relationships between existing electronic and communication equipment, circuits, automated switches, operating protocols and characteristics and equipment control systems, with the interconnectability and inter-operability of new equipment, switches, circuits and software that may differ in kind from those presently in use.
Experience planning and implementing electronic and communications installation involving a variety of available equipment, services, security methods and operating techniques. These include automated switches, packet switching systems, control devices and transmission methods to link a number of communication devices to perform specific communication functions.
Experience installing, grooms, and maintains back-up power to support operations in the event of loss of primary power.
Experience working with other agencies to develop and implement telecommunications systems for mutual benefit.

1 full year of graduate level education
or
superior academic achievement
or
A combination of experience and graduate education as described above that equates to one year of experience
