This position is part of the National Archives and Records Administration.The purpose of this position is to serve in a developmental capacity as a member of one of the Reference Service teams, located within the Center, National Personnel Records Center (NPRC).
Duties
The following are the duties of this position at the GS-06. If you are selected at a lower grade level, you will have the opportunity to learn to perform all these duties, and will receive training to help you grow in this position.
As an Archives Technician, you will:
Conduct the initial review of incoming requests, which may include inquiries that involve fire destroyed or damaged records, Congressional inquiries, and/or highly sensitive requests regarding high-ranking governmental officials.
Analyze requests for information to identify the scope of inquiry. Determines which requests can be acted on, whether reference should be made to other collections, e.g., Federal and/or state, and/or if the customer should be contacted through telephonic or electronic communications for clarification.
Investigate conflicting record information, apparent errors, and/or omissions of record data.
Participate as a team member in a variety of functions as determined by team decisions, which may include performing work distribution and/or quality assurance and/or administrative team related duties.
Qualifications
You must meet the following requirements within 30 days of the closing date of this announcement.
For the GS-04 grade level, you must have one year of general experience which includes:
Progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled.
OR
Education: 2 years of education above high school.
OR
Combination of general experience and education. You may qualify by a combination of experience and education. Options for qualifying based on a combination will be identified in the online questions.
In addition to the above requirements, you must meet the following time-in-grade requirement, if applicable:
.Advancement to positions up to GS-5: Candidates may be advanced without time restriction to positions up to GS-05 if the position to be filled is no more than two grades above the lowest grade the employee held within the preceding 52 weeks under his or her latest non-temporary competitive appointment.
