This position is located at the Department of Veterans Affairs inside the Veterans Health Administration located within VA Sierra Pacific Network-VISN 21 which contains the Northern California Health Care System (VANCHCS) in the Nursing Service, physically located at the Martinez outpatient clinics.
Position is responsible for timekeeping and general clerical support for employees in Nursing Service on the Martinez campus.
Duties
Duties include, but may not be limited to the following:
Performs all aspects of timekeeping for Nursing Service. Types the work schedules from handwritten copies completed by Nurse Managers/supervisors for all units/clinics. Enters employee work tours, leave, etc. in VATAS Timekeepers Menu. Keeps track of leave time available for each employee in Nursing Service. Posts Fee-Basis employee timecards manually calculating hours worked multiplied by hourly rate. Teaches and trains employees how to use the leave menu. Assists employees in clearing exceptions. Types memos as needed for employees who need to request advance leave. Maintains weekly work schedules for all units/clinics. Makes rounds to units/clinics daily to annotate scheduling changes, collect overtime/comp-time earned slips and leave reports. Tracks, logs and reports on a variety of T&A and special pay categories requiring the use of unrelated methods, practices and procedures. Prepares tracking system and logs hours reported such as overtime pay, compensatory pay, premium pay and other special pay determinations.

Qualifications
TYPING PROFICIENCY: This position requires the skills of a qualified typist. In addition to meeting the experience and/or education requirements, you must be able to type at least 40 words per minute.

ENGLISH LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY: In accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7402(d), No person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless they are proficient in basic written and spoken English. You must be proficient in basic written and spoken English to meet the requirements of this position.

Specialized Experience GS-5: One (1) year of Specialized Experience that equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to successfully perform the duties of the position that is typically in or related to the position. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least GS-4 grade level. Examples of Specialized experience are: understanding or standardized rules and regulations relating to entitlement and use of various categories of time and leave; utilizing administrative and clerical policies and procedures to create, format, and proofread documents; reproducing and distributing materials, and maintaining files; using computer equipment and a variety of software applications; and communicating with a wide variety of employees and supervisors.

Substitution of Education for Experience GS-5: Successfully completed four (4) years of education above the high school level in any field for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. (TRANSCRIPTS REQUIRED).
OR
Combining Education and Experience GS-5: Equivalent combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and experience may be used to meet total experience requirements. (i.e. six (6) months of specialized experience and two (2) years of education above the high school level).
