THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION. This National Guard position is for a AIRCRAFT LOADMASTER (INSTRUCTOR), Position Description Number NGD1632000 and is part of the TN 164th AW Air National Guard. This vacancy is covered by Association of Civilian Technicians (ACT), Chapter 115 (Pyramid on the River Chapter)

Duties

As an AIRCRAFT LOADMASTER (INSTRUCTOR), GS-2185-10 (TITLE 32) you will, conduct loadmaster training to ensure worldwide capability. Perform preflight inspection of the interior and exterior of the aircraft, to include engines, fuselage, and control surfaces for mechanical and structural soundness.Prior to flight, accomplishes preflight checks, inspection, acceptance, and operation of all aircraft loading equipment, and systems. Develop and certifies cargo load plans considering quantity, weight, configuration, floor capacity, compartment restrictions and proper location within the aircraft to achieve the optimum center of gravity. Brief passengers on flight itinerary, use of emergency equipment, emergency exits, and procedures for egress, oxygen use, life preservers, electronic devices and movement about the aircraft before, during and after flight. Perform other Duties and assigned.

  • This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing state's National Guard, required prior to the effective date of placement.
  • Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform.
  • Acceptance of an excepted service position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment.
  • Applicants who are not currently a member of the National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership and employment in the National Guard in the military grade listed in this announcement.
  • Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation.
  • May be required to successfully complete a probationary period.
  • Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.
  • Applicant must complete a Baseline Pre-Placement Screening for General Schedule positions within 30 days of appointment.
  • Acceptance of a Federal position may terminate Tricare Reserve Select eligibility.
  • For positions requiring a security clearance (Secret or Top Secret) the applicant must possess or be able to obtain a clearance within one year of appointment.
  • For positions requiring the operation of motor vehicles, candidates must have a valid state driver’s license for the state in which they live or are principally employed.
  • Must attain and maintain mission-ready status at the appropriate crew qualification level in the unit's assigned aircraft. Must take and pass written and in flight standardization evaluation exams.
  • Incumbent is exposed to physiological hazards of flight plus demands of routine lengthy missions, must work in confined, hazardous noise areas, is subject to inclement weather during ground ops and dangerous environment conditions during flight.
  • May be required to travel in military and commercial aircraft to perform temporary duty assignments.
  • Required to maintain proficiency in the use of firearms. May be required to carry and use a concealed weapon while performing aircrew related duties.

Qualifications

Military Grades: E-4 through E-9 GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Experience in functions such as preparing aircraft loading plans, loading and offloading aircraft, operating loading equipment, and ensuring security of cargo in flight. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Must have at least 1 year at the next lower GS level or 1 year experience planning and directing the loading distribution, arid securing of cargo in aircraft; conducting classroom and flight training in aircraft loading. Instructing and evaluating the performance of Aircraft Loadmasters in their assigned aircrew duties, to perform in-flight aircrew duties, and to perform related staff work assignments; the duties performed are specifically covered by the GS-2185 Aircrew Technician Series, which includes all positions the primary duties of which are to perform, instruct, or supervise flight crew work, particularly (1) flight engineering work supporting the operation of heavy multiengine aircraft, (2) controlling and operating aerial refueling systems aboard tanker aircraft, and (3) loading, positioning, securing, and offloading cargo in transport aircraft.
