This position is part of the National Archives and Records Administration. This position is located in the Reference Section at the Valmeyer facility, the Annex (CPR). Serves as an Archives Technician engaged in reference service work involving answering inquiries for information and/or documents pertaining to the various non-current archival records in the custody of the National Personnel Records Center (NPRC).
Duties
As an Archives Technician, you will:
Conduct detailed examination of records for availability of pertinent information.
Investigate missing, conflicting, or erroneous data by communicating with other records sources or other Government Agencies.
Conduct extensive and detailed searches in the many records groups and series.
Summarize vague findings on which official decisions can be based.
Perform research of precedents or policies to formulate replies to appropriate inquiries.
Compose reply or forwards requested records in accordance with established precedent, policy, or official decision, citing and explaining numerous laws, regulations, and policies in applicable cases in concise understandable language.
Qualifications
You must meet the following requirements within 30 days of the closing date of this announcement.
Specialized Experience for the GS-05 grade level is defined as one year of experience at the GS-04 grade level, or equivalent, that is typically in or related to the position and which equipped the candidate with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of this position. Specialized experience for this position is defined as experience:
Communicating and responding to inquiries, verbally or in writing.
AND
Using automated systems to organize and maintain documents.
AND
Interpreting or applying regulations and policies to accomplish work assignments.
OR
You may substitute education for specialized experience as follows: 4 years above high school.
OR
You may qualify by a combination of experience and education.
NOTE: Only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours (i.e., beyond the second year) is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement. One full academic year of study (30 semester hours) beyond the second year is equivalent to 6 months of specialized experience.
In addition to the above requirements, you must meet the following time-in-grade requirement, if applicable:
For the GS-5, you must have been at the GS-4level for 52 weeks.
Advancement to positions up to GS-5: Candidates may be advanced without time restriction to positions up to GS-05 if the position to be filled is no more than two grades above the lowest grade the employee held within the preceding 52 weeks under his or her latest non-temporary competitive appointment.
