You will serve as a Security Guard in the Operations Division of NAS JACKSONVILLE SEC DET. This position has a selective placement factor: This position has a Spanish Language requirement. You must be able to speak the language with sufficient structural accuracy and vocabulary to participate effectively in most formal in informal conversations on practical, social, and professional topics

Duties

You will protect U.S. Navy property and assets from hazards including acts of terrorism, sabotage, espionage, trespass, theft, fire and accidental or willful damage and destruction You will serve as a member of the entry control team which is responsible for conducting commercial, private and government vehicle screening and passenger identify checks using a variety of sophisticated technologies You will patrol areas on foot or by vehicle and enforce rules and regulations governing access control and breaches in physical security You will protect and prevent unauthorized access to critical sensitive/restrictive areas, classified items and/or hazardous materials that could affect public health or safety You will use specialized access control equipment (e.g., automated gate systems, pop-up barricades and bollards, explosive detection equipment, credential verification systems) to secure facilities

Requirements

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver's license.
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • You must meet the qualifications and be certified to carry a firearm. You will need to maintain firearm proficiency.
  • This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968. You will be required to sign a DD-Form-2760, Qualification to possess firearms or ammunition.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • You must have reached your 21 birthday prior to appointment.
  • You will be required to wear a uniform and comply with grooming standards. You will be required to wear protective clothing such as a ballistic vest, helmet, etc.
  • You must obtain and maintain current certification for CPR and First Aid.
  • You must successfully attend and graduate from the Navy Security Guard Training Course consisting of various subjects pertaining to vehicle entry I access control, building security checks, monitoring and other security related duties.
  • You must successfully pass the basic training academy and required annual sustainment training, including Non-Lethal Weapons training, firearms training, first aid, CPR and approved physical agility/readiness test.
  • You must pass periodic proficiency examinations in the use of firearms, expandable baton and the application of defensive spray.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as protective vest, ballistic helmet, etc. for the duration of the work shift.
  • This is a Mission Essential position. You will be required to ensure organization or facility continuity of operations and/or completion of tasks that are considered essential to the mission designated by a local or command decision.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-04 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Screening and/or inspecting personal and commercial vehicles requesting installation access; 2) Controlling personnel access by verifying identification/credentials; 3) Patrolling buildings or perimeters for suspicious activity; and 4) Maintaining desk logs, desk journals, and pass-down logbooks to document security events. The position is located on Vieques, Puerto Rico, which is mostly a Hispanic community. The incumbent of the position must use tact and diplomacy in dealing with the highest level of civilian authorities on the island. Intermediate Spanish language skills are needed to communicate with local authorities. Speaking Definitions: The incumbents must be able to speak the language with sufficient structural accuracy and vocabulary to participate effectively in most formal and informal conversations on practical, social, and professional topics. Reading Definitions: Able to read standard newspaper items addressed to the general reader, routine correspondence, reports, and technical materials in the individual's special field.
