This position is located in the Office of the Under Secretary for Political Affairs (P). The Under Secretary for Political Affairs serves as the day-to-day manager of overall regional and bilateral policy issues, and oversees the bureaus for Africa, East Asia and the Pacific, Europe and Eurasia, the Near East, South and Central Asia, the Western Hemisphere, and International Organizations.
Duties
Provides mentorship and technical guidance to other staff assistants, plans and defines project objectives and makes
recommendations to improve complex processes based on review of the work.
Assists in providing and prioritizing the Under Secretary’s feedback, taskings, and requests to the P
staff, resolving all issues that arise, referring those that require a higher- level review to the supervisor.
Serves as the central point of contact and liaison with the P front office principals and other 7th floor and interagency contacts, including those at the White House, to stay informed on issues and concerns that may impact P policy matters.
Analyzes and assesses political economic, political military, social, and other significant trends bearing on the
political viability of options and alternatives concerning ongoing developments in countries or thematic area.
Applies internal control measures to protect organizational integrity and prevent unauthorized use and
distribution of sensitive and classified materials.
Requirements

- Incumbent will be subject to random drug testing.
- Obtain/maintain eligibility to access Sensitive Compartmented Information
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret security clearance.
Qualifications
Applicants must meet all the required qualification requirements described below by the closing date of this announcement.
NOTE: Applicants must meet time-in-grade and time after competitive appointment requirements, by the closing date of this announcement.
Time-In-Grade Requirements: Federal applicants must have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade to satisfy time-in-grade restrictions, per 5CFR 300, Subpart F.
Applicants must have 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 level in the Federal service which provided the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the duties of the position. Qualifying specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
Experience managing all administrative activities for an organization.
Experience analyzing, evaluating and developing administrative policies and processes.
Experience routing and managing the paper flow between offices.
Experience drafting briefings, action memorandums and reviewing documents for grammatical errors.
There is no substitute of education for specialized experience for the GS-13 position.
