About the Position: Fort Drum, home to the 10th Mountain Division (Light Infantry), is located in Northern New York, It offers bountiful outdoor recreational opportunities. It is approximately 30 miles from Canada, with the Great Lakes to the west, Adirondack Mountains to the east, and St. Lawrence River and Thousand Islands in between.

Duties

Operate the host of Fort Drum New York (FDNY) social media platforms which includes Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and Instagram. Ensure that information is releasable within Department of Defense (DOD) and Department of Army (DA) regulations, policies, and guidelines, and maintains operational security. Apply modern industry techniques to create engaging content to tell an organization's story on social media. Create multimedia content using graphic design, photo and video editing software and techniques. Ensure all social media pages provide information that is accurate, policy-compliant, engaging, and timely. Determine appropriateness of release of information on approved social media platforms. Provide oral presentations to diverse groups explaining organizational use of social media platforms.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment.
  • This position requires occasional Temporary Duty Travel (TDY).
  • May be required to work irregular hours, nights, weekends, holidays, and/or overtime to support mission/installation functions.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) Applying industry techniques to create engaging digital content. 2) Creating web-based release of information regarding community outreach and/or media relations activities. 3) Writing articles by determining appropriateness of release of information. 4) Planning the execution of announcements for use on national, regional or local basis. OR Education: Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as communication. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Communication CounselCommunications and MediaCommunications Security ManagementMultimedia Technologies Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-09).

Education
