About the Position: This is a Public Affairs Specialist located in Fort Drum, New York.

Duties

Coordinating internal events, including award ceremonies, promotions, etc., ensuring proper media outlets were present. Arranging videotaping production, including the development of storyboards, for information gathering, video footage and photographic requirements. Presenting updates each month to newly assigned/hired personnel. Writing articles pertaining various events throughout the organization. Developing organizational brochures, fact sheets, and official function programs for internal use or external use. Reviewing all content prior to publication. Coordinating all print and broadcast media interviews with the Command Group. Organizing guest speakers based on recommended subject matter. Providing support during 24/7 operations including crisis communications planning and execution.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Must be able to obtain/maintain a secret clearance.
  • Temporary Duty Travel up to 10%
  • Must attend Basic Public Affairs Course within 6 months of employment.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes managing public affairs program materials; composing speeches, memos and publications; responding to request for print and broadcast media interviews; and assisting with the coordination official events. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09). OR Education: Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the work of the position, such as communication, journalism, public relations or public administration. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Communications and MediaPlanning and EvaluatingWritten Communication Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-09).
