This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application.

Duties

Total-Rewards-of-an-Allied-Health-VA-Career-Brochure.pdf Duties include but are not limited to: Develops Administrative and Operational Plans of Imaging Service to assure optimum patient care, quality control, and the economically efficient performance of all activities. The incumbent has a major role in designing long-range plans for the Service, including construction, utilization of space, equipment needs, recruitment and retention of personnel, as well as objectives of future needs of the Service. The incumbent is given general guidelines and direction from the Chief of Imaging Service and is expected to function with initiative and independent judgment in his or her sphere of responsibilities. Develops estimates of Budget Requirements, and a Budget for the Chief of Imaging, based upon historical data, and anticipated workload and production capability of the work force and develops annual management and budget briefings for the Service. Keeps upper management aware of changes that may increase costs or affect employees' status, limit services rendered, or affect work outside these services. Reviews and signs all requests for issue of equipment and supplies purchased out of the Cost Control Point as initiating and/or Approving Official. Signs receipts for equipment and supplies delivered to the Imaging Service. Has full authority for Fund Control Points and maintains running control of funds to ensure that accounts are within authorized levels, in accordance with generally accepted accounting practices. Assigns work based on priorities, consideration of difficulty, requirements of assignments, and capabilities of employees. The incumbent, with the consent of the Chief of Imaging Service, approves and certifies all personnel timecards, overtime requests, and approves/disapproves leave requests. Supports equal opportunities for all employees, effectively uses incentive awards to promote and recognize employees. The incumbent writes Position Descriptions and Functional Statements, performs the annual performance appraisals for applicable technical and support personnel and reviews annually the Functional Statements or Position Descriptions and performance standards for all employees under his/her direct supervision. Administers annual competency reviews for all applicable department employees. Ensures adequate supplies to the Service to meet workload demands. Is responsible for seeing that technologists always keep the cabinets in each room stocked with necessary supplies. Interfaces with SPS, Contracting, Acquisition and Logistics/Materiel Management to ensure supplies are current yet within appropriate guidelines. Serves as Control Point (and potential purchase card) Official. Serves as a facility advisor for student program school affiliations related to Radiology Services. Work Schedule: Monday - Friday; 8:00am - 4:30pm; subject to change based on the needs of the facility. Qualifications

Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship. Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Certification: All applicants must be certified in general radiologic technology by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology, Radiography (ARRT) (R). Advanced ARRT certification is required for assignments that include computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), [or Mammography (M) duties performed independently, as applicable]. Advanced certification indicates that the incumbent [can operate independently] and has demonstrated specific clinical competency in the appropriate specialty and taken and passed the designated examination. [In modalities that require advanced certification, to support their continued development, technologists who do not possess an advanced certification may be provided on the job training with oversight from a certified radiologic technologist.] Education: Completion of a full-time training course of at least 24 months in duration (or the equivalent) in a post-high school diagnostic radiologic technology program, evidenced by a certificate or an associate degree, accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT) or from [other accrediting agencies as recognized by the Department of Education (DOE). May qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision as described in the VA Qualification Standard for this occupation (only applicable to current VHA employees who are in this occupation and meet the criteria). Grade Determinations: In addition to the basic requirements for employment, the following criteria must be met when determining the grade of candidates. GS11 Experience. At least one year of experience equivalent to the next lower grade level directly related to the position being filled that demonstrates the clinical competencies needed to provide services as a quality control technologist, DRT team leader, supervisory radiologic technologist, PACS technologist, clinical program director, or an assistant chief radiologic technologist. The candidate must demonstrate all of the following technical KSAs and demonstrate the potential to acquire the assignment-specific KSAs designated by an asterisk (*): (KSAs must be clearly reflected in resume under description of duties in order to be found qualified for this position/grade level). *Ability to develop and initiate new imaging services that apply current research findings. Ability to participate as an instructor in the facility's in-service clinical training findings. Ability to interview and evaluate candidates for positions in the section and recommend appointments, advancements, or, when appropriate, disciplinary actions. Ability to evaluate performance, identify continuing education and training needs, etc. *Ability to analyze organizational, technical, and administrative problems and to develop and implement solutions that result in efficient section operation. Skill in participating in organizational facility initiatives, workgroups, and/or committees. Ability to draft and/or recommend organizational policies and/or directives. Preferred Experience: Advanced certification in MRI and/or Ultrasound References: VA Handbook 5005/119 Part II Appendix G25 The full performance level of this vacancy is GS11. Physical Requirements: May require standing, lifting, carrying, sitting, stooping, bending, pulling, and pushing.
