About the Position: Provides leadership as senior design engineer and technical team facilitator in the Electrical-Mechanical Section of the Seattle District office. Performs major design development work assignments planning, designing, and coordinating mechanical engineering activities.

Duties

Independently performs major work assignments and applies a wealth of advanced concepts, principles, and practices of mechanical engineering to serve as the mechanical design expert. Maintains awareness of new scientific developments and advances in mechanical design and construction. Responds to requests for technical advice and assistance from team members. Serves as a formal independent technical reviewer and serves in other review roles. Provides technical team leadership on various types of projects. Trains or arranges for the training of team members in methods and techniques of team building and working in teams to accomplish tasks or projects. Applies a wide range of qualitative and/or quantitative methods to identify, access, analyze, and improve team effectiveness.

Basic Requirement for Mechanical Engineer: Please follow this link to view the basic requirement for the engineer occupations: https://www.opm.gov/policy-data-oversight/classification-qualifications/general-schedule-qualification-standards/0800/files/all-professional-engineering-positions-0800.pdf Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes (1) work as a senior mechanical engineer in design to ensure quality of plans and specifications, (2) application of mechanical design and construction expertise by reviewing designs for proposed projects, and/or performing second level review for in-house designs, (3) analyzing engineering designs to identify problems or deficiencies, AND (4) make determinations to resolve constructability issues which may cause delays. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service GS-12. Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted. Selective Placement Factor: This position requires possession of a Professional Registration: Professional Engineering (PE). You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: CommunicationsLeadershipMechanical EngineeringTechnical Competence Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-12).
