About the Position: The purpose of this position is to provide installation access control services to a wide variety of visitors with reoccurring, nonrecurring and unique access requests, and requirements.

Duties

Serves as a Shift Leader who is an assistant to the Guard Shift Supervisor. Instructs employees in specific tasks and job techniques, and provides on-the-job training to new employees in accordance with established procedures Stands guard at a variety of fixed posts within the installation, exercising those stringent security measures necessary to monitor and provide appropriate level of control of the personnel and vehicles on the installation. Patrols designated areas by vehicle or foot to check perimeter locks, fence gates, and restricted areas. Patrols installation perimeters to detect faulty fences, patrols installation waterways bordering the installation, trespassing violations, and attempted theft of federal property. Operates as a member of the Quick Response Force (QRF), during actual or simulated incidents. Provides protection to very important persons (VIPs) to include, but not limited to General Officers, foreign dignitaries and high-ranking members of the government.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret (T3) clearance.
  • Incumbent must be able to obtain and sustain state certification for operating the NCIC terminals.
  • Requirements of Individual Reliability Program apply. See "additional information" for specifics.
  • Designated as a drug testing position and individual agrees to submit to a urinalysis on a recurring basis. A DA Form 5019 - Condition of Employment must be assigned.
  • Shift work is required, or a change in work shift may be necessary. Hours of work encompass fluctuating tours of duty to include evenings, nights, weekends and holidays.
  • Overtime may be required as directed and is subject to recall for periods of emergency overtime.
  • Incumbent must be proficient in the use of assigned firearms/weapons, pass an initial qualification, and must qualify semi-annually thereafter in the use of assigned firearms/weapons.
  • Incumbent must undergo and pass annual medical exams of physical, emotional and mental stability.
  • Incumbent must successfully complete security guard training.
  • Employee must be trained and maintain current required certifications in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) techniques and must know first aid. May act as a first responder in a medical emergency.
  • Incumbent may be required to wear chemical protection masks, gloves, and other protective equipment, and may be required to be certified in the use of aerosol irritants and baton.
  • Incumbent will be required to maintain physical conditioning and pass an annual physical agility test (PAT). Failure to meet the standards after the second attempt within a ninety-day period will result in separation.
  • Incumbent must be fully qualified to operate a government vehicle. Must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license. Loss of license may result in removal from the position.
  • Must wear the Department of the Army Security Guard (DASG) uniform and maintain a high state of appearance and hygiene.
  • Employee must obtain and maintain applicable certifications in operating various electronic equipment and sensors.
  • Must not have any medical condition that precludes the wearing of a chemical protective mask and over garments.
  • Employee must be able to perform as a member of the installation’s overall security response capability. The duties and training require employee to carry/deploy a riot baton, carry a protective shield and employ non-lethal ammunitions if necessary.
  • Must meet the requirements under the Lautenberg Amendment/Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968.

SPECIALZED EXPERIENCE: one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-06 grade level in the Federal service which includes serving as an armed security guard performing various aspects of security and law enforcement work that involves preserving the peace, protecting staff members and patients from incidents involving domestic disputes, verbal and physical altercations, and potential active shooter incidents; experience in conducting preliminary investigations for traffic accidents, and theft; experience monitoring closed circuit television systems, personnel access in restricted areas, making proper notification of any breaches; experience conducting security checks of the facility, provide security escort duty, and conduct random inspections/searches of vehicles and personal property.
