This position is located in the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Office of Legislative Affairs (OLA).
The primary purpose of this position is to perform the full range of congressional work including controlling, analyzing, researching, and formulation of official responses to written and telephonic requests from Members of Congress and their staffs as well as Congressional Committees on matters of Congressional interest, inquiry, or investigation.
Duties
As a LEAD CORRESPONDENCE ANALYST GS 0301 13, your typical work assignments may include the following under supervision:
Leads a team of Correspondence Analysts in identifying, distributing and balancing workloads and tasks.
Performs research, analytical, data, acquisition, data analyses, and issues analysis assignments.
Obtains and compiles past correspondence, reports, and recent news analyses assignments.
Reviews incoming correspondence in relation to clearly delineated organizational functions and program responsibilities.
Keeps track of timeframes and progress for developing responses.
Performs assigned segments of audits and reviews to evaluate timeliness, flow, and quality of correspondence.
Compose responses to incoming inquiries, suggests appropriate responses and provides status reports.
Coordinates exchanges of information and joint activities with staff members of other organizations, and of agencies having related functions, pertaining to specific information needed for input for correspondence, and for audits and reviews.

Qualifications
Specialized Experience:
You qualify for the GS-13 grade level if you possess one year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal government, performing duties such as:
Lead a team of Correspondence Analysts and perform a variety of administrative functions to support the substantive programs of the Office of Legislative Affairs (OLA);
Research and finalize written materials, reports, and Questions for the Record prepared by the Department component organizations to ensure that the information provided consistently and accurately describes the Secretary's position on strategic matters and agency operations; and
Train or arrange for the training of team members in methods and techniques of team building and working in teams to accomplish tasks or projects, and provide or arrange for specific administrative or technical training necessary for accomplishment of individual and team tasks.
Substitution of education in lieu of specialized experience may not be used for this grade level.

Time-in-grade
Current General Schedule (GS) federal employees, and those that have served in GS positions within the last 52 weeks, must have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade, or a combination of the next lower grade level and an equivalent band in the federal service.
