About the Position: This position is located with the Directorate of Plans,Training, Mobilization, and Security Training Division, Range Maintenace at Fort Riley, Kansas.
Duties
Operate carpentry equipment to produce finished product with precise fits, accurate dimensions, and acceptable appearance.
Select best suited wood/wood substitute for projects based on strength, appearance, cost and durability.
Plan and lays out work in accordance with drawings, sketches, blueprints, and own knowledge of construction or needed repairs.
Construct building frameworks including walls, floors, and door-frames.
Perform repair and construction work, using a variety of hand and power tools.
Fabricate and installs frames or casings for windows, doors, transoms and ventilators.
Able to navigate cross-country using military topographic maps.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain a valid state and government driver's license.
- This position requires a pre-employment physical.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Carpenter without more than normal supervision. ????I have the ability to perform common carpentry work. I can construct items with regular shapes, use hand and power tools, have knowledge of construction practices, and determine if repairs are needed. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

Physical effort: Work requires lifting and carrying target mechanisms, target frames, supplies and equipment that may weigh up to 100 pounds, climbing, standing, walking, and working in awkward or uncomfortable positions.
Working conditions: May perform work indoors or outdoors. Outdoors work may involve extreme conditions (e.g., wind, snow, extreme hot or cold, etc.). Some work locations may only be accessible by truck (with plow in winter) or ATV, several miles from the primary work site. There may be sporadic exposure to intense noise and potentially injury from power tools. Employee faces exposure to injury from falls, electric shock, and unexploded ordinance.
