This position serves as Document Imaging (Scanning) Technician who performs duties related to the prepping, scanning, indexing, quality control, retention and destruction of non-electronic health and administrative information for the patient's health record.
Duties
Prepares documents by verifying patient identification, identifying and repairing paper irregularities such as tom edges, staples, tape or sticky areas, odd-size pages, poor image quality; arranges documents in chronological date order and prepares batch cover sheet.
Scans and/or uploads documents, photos or PDF images and indexes to the correct area of the electronic health record and attaches to the appropriate note title if applicable.
Performs quality control both prior to and after finalizing scanned documents to ensure the document is scanned into the correct patient's chart, attached to the correct encounter or admission, linked to the appropriate note title and has acceptable image quality, legibility, orientation and alignment. Immediately identifies and corrects errors.
Picks up documents to be scanned from various clinics/units or file room periodically throughout the day and processes according to hospital procedure.
Sorts and prioritizes documents to be scanned when voluminous volumes of outside documents are received in accordance with hospital policy and/or consults with providers for guidance when necessary.
Qualifications
To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks:
GS-04: One year of general experience. General experience is progressively responsible clerical, office or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of this position.
AND/OR
2 years of education above the high school level. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university
OR
combination of education and experience that when combined fully meet the minimum qualifications for this position. The total percentage must equal at least 100% to qualify an applicant for the GS-4 level.
GS-05: One full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-04 grade level that equipped me with the knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of this position. Experience includes: Use of electronic health record systems; identifying and classifying medical record
documentation; and ensuring medical records are complete for accuracy.
AND/OR
4 years of education above the high school level.
OR
Combination of education and experience that when combined fully meet the minimum qualifications for this position. Only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to
qualify an applicant for GS-05 grade level.
Time In Grade
Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
