The primary purpose of this position is to serve as an Electronics Technician in the Technology Office, under the Office of the Communication & Customer Experience. As an Electronics Technician, the incumbent will work on the design, installation, project/program management, and maintenance of facility special purpose systems and complex electronic equipment and systems assigned to the Technology Office at the VA Southern Nevada Healthcare System and will have duties at all VASNHCS locations.

Duties

Major duties include but are not limited to: Responsible for technical support and application of highly complex electronic systems that may include (but are not limited to): facility wide digital signage networked information systems, highly sophisticated facility "wayfinding" networked systems, Crestron command and control informational systems, Extron educational information systems, fully integrated Guest WIFI networking and configurations support, QMatic patient queuing systems, multi layered Media server operations, networking, programming, and operational support of Medical Media, Public Affairs, facility Printing, Welcome Center, and Veteran's Experience personnel/offices. Knowledge of Vocia digital overhead Public Address, Crestron Conferencing Audio Video operations and equipment, Uninterrupted Back up Power supply networked equipment, Communications & Customer Experience Special Purpose standalone networked systems such as computer labs, command post notification network, Extron educational system repair and operations, Cisco network switches, and conference room scheduling systems. Conference room smartboard support, patient entertainment and TV networks, multiple VLAN and IP schemed network systems Communications & Customer Experience special purpose systems data cabling support (installing data cabling, installing date cable connectors, and cataloging install and/or existing cabling locations. Support includes design, installation, modification, evaluations, testing, troubleshooting maintenance and repair, calibration, preventive maintenance inspections, and user training. Performs duties of as broad scope and complexity including analyzing, diagnosing, designing, and maintaining Communication & Customer Experience electronics systems for all VANSHS facilities. Troubleshoots and corrects system malfunctions on complex microprocessor-based systems that have vitally interrelated and sometimes dispersed subsystems. Recognize hazardous conditions and procedures with electronic instrumentation systems and initiates appropriate preventive or corrective action. Provide technical expertise and support to Communication & Customer Experience systems via planning, installation, implementation, testing and evaluation, and preventive maintenance. Interpret drawings and specifications for system performance, and circuit schematics. Knowledge and skill to use and adapt conventional general and specialized testing equipment in order to provide comprehensive technical support to assigned Communications & Customer Experience electronic systems. Promotion Potential: The selectee may be promoted to the full GS-12 performance level without further competition when all regulatory, qualification, and performance requirements are met. To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 08/01/2024. Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-11 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-9 grade. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. Knowledge of Electronic shop practices with test equipment and skill in interpreting drawings, specifications for performance, and circuit schematics. Knowledge of electronic equipment design, development, evaluation, testing, installation, and maintenance. Knowledge of electronic equipment, computers, electronics, and electricity in conjunction with physics, pneumatics, mechanics, algebra, trigonometry, and hospital procedures. Has the ability to apply this knowledge to general and computer-based electronic systems. (This experience must be well documented in your resume or application. Physical Requirements: The work also requires prolonged periods of standing and walking. The incumbent w will continually handle Objects weighting up to20lbs.and occasionally objects up to 50lbs. Some tasks involve climbing and working in high places using ladders or platforms. Circuit repairs also require adequately sight and dexterity. Technical, academic, and mental demands are considerable. The work performed is of a precise nature requiring prolonged concentration. The incumbent will often work under conditions or stress caused by the nature of the medical mission which involves the well being of patients and the necessity to meet deadlines.
