The primary purpose of this position is to serve as an Electronic Technician in the Electronics Sub-Section of Engineering Services. As an Electronics Technician the incumbent will work on the design, installation, and maintenance of complex electronic equipment and systems at the VA of Southern Nevada. He/she is assigned to the Electronics Section of Engineering Services. The incumbent will have duties at all VA of Southern Nevada locations.
Duties
Major duties include but are not limited to:
Responsible for technical support and application of highly complex electronic systems that may include (but are not limited to): satellite and entertainment ,law enforcement/ security access control and surveillance camera systems, nurse call, patient wandering/locating, electronic announcement systems, bed management systems, temperature monitoring, and wireless communications systems (including their components, and sub-systems).
Support includes design, installation, modification, evaluations, testing, troubleshooting maintenance and repair, calibration, preventive maintenance inspections, and user training.
Performs duties of a broadscopeandcomplexityincludinganalyzing,diagnosing,designing,andmaintainingelectronicssystemsfor all VANSHS facilities.
Troubleshoots and corrects system malfunctions on complex microprocessor-based systems that have vitally interrelated and sometimes dispersed subsystems.
Recognize hazardous conditions and procedures with electronic instrumentation systems and initiates appropriate preventive or corrective action.
Provide technical expertise and support to electronics systems via planning, installation, implementation, testing and evaluation, and preventive maintenance.
Familiarity of conference room smartboard support, patient entertainment and IP TV networks, Operating Room support systems, and facility Wireless networked synchronized clocks, multiple VLAN and IP schemed network systems.
Provide support for Facility Fire Alarm system, Facility Security system maintenance and repair, Facility data cabling support (cable installation, installing connectors, and cataloging locations).
Support operations for vendor an/off site calibration of Engineering and Electronics test equipment.
Knowledge of computer and network based FSPS electronic equipment systems to include interfacing, theory of assigned networked systems, maintenance and troubleshooting methodologies for all assigned special purpose facility systems such as: Lenel based CCTV and Access Control systems, Satellite and Cable TV, Harris and Motorola Land mobile Radio systems, Digital and analog voice pagers, two-way radio networks to include encryption operations, HAM radio operations, Wireless TUG systems.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 09/05/2023.
Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-11 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-09. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade.

You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below:
Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-09 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: knowledge of a wide range of electronic equipment design/diagnostic tools, principles, standards, precedents, techniques, requirements, methods, applications, sources, and procedures to perform a variety of assignments in the assigned application or specialty area. Knowledge of Electronic shop practices with test equipment and skill in interpreting drawings, specifications for performance, and circuit schematics. Knowledge of electronic equipment design, development, evaluation, testing, installation, and maintenance. Knowledge of electronic equipment, computers, electronics, and electricity in conjunction with physics, pneumatics, mechanics, algebra, trigonometry, and hospital procedures. Has the ability to apply this knowledge to general and computer-based electronic systems. (This experience must be well documented in your resume or application. OR,
Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have successful completion of (a) all the requirements for a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, electronics engineering, or electronics technology, or (b) 3 years of study in an accredited (by the Accreditation Board of Engineering and Technology, Inc. (ABET) curriculum in electronics, or (c) a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree that included major study or at least 24 semester hours in any combination of courses such as those shown above for GS-4 or equivalent. At least 12 of the 24 semester hours must have been in electronics courses. Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have. OR,
Combination: Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at this level. You must have an combination of specialized experience and education. Knowledge of developing policies, standards, and procedures for maintenance, installation, or similar functions, provided the work clearly shows that the applicant applied a specialized knowledge of the theories and principles of a variety of electronic systems or equipment.

Physical Requirements: The work also requires prolonged periods of standing and walking. The incumbent w will continually handle Objects weighting up to20lbs.and occasionally objects up to 50lbs. Some tasks involve climbing and working in high places using ladders or platforms. Circuit repairs also require adequately sight and dexterity. Technical, academic, and mental demands are considerable. The work performed is of a precise nature requiring prolonged concentration. The incumbent will often work under conditions or stress caused by the nature of the medical mission which involves the well being of patients and the necessity to meet deadlines.
