Duties

This position primarily performs maintenance on the daylight shift (06:30 -15:00) and can be required to perform duties of an operator as necessary. With minimal supervision, the incumbent performs a variety of duties assigned by the Maintenance Supervisor. Performs various tasks in the maintenance, repair and operation of four high pressure steam generators (generating 44,000 pounds of steam per hour at 150 psi), two high pressure steam generators (generating 80,000 pounds of steam per hour at 150 psi) and all auxiliary equipment, four centrifugal electric motor driven air compressors (furnishing compressed air at 110 psi) and auxiliary equipment, four 3500-ton electric driven York centrifugal chillers, three 3500-ton electric driven York YD chillers and all associated auxiliary equipment. Included is an 8 MW Cogeneration system consisting of a natural gas driven turbine, and a Heat Recovery Steam Generator capable of 80,000 pounds of steam per hour at 150 psi. and auxiliary equipment. Typical maintenance duties include but are not necessarily limited to the following: troubleshooting / repair / preventative maintenance of all equipment that provides steam, chilled water and compressed air found in the Steam and Chilled Water Generation Plant. Trouble shoot / repair / preventative maintenance of pumps, valves, fans and equipment located at the cooling towers for the SCWGP that fall under its responsibility. Measuring, cutting and threading pipe, cleaning turbine tubes in chiller heat exchangers and cleaning the water and fire sides of the steam generators. Troubleshoot / repair control issues associated with direct digital, pneumatic and electric. Has the ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics and diagrams needed to make repairs. Typical operation duties if needed, include, but are not necessarily limited to the following; maintaining the correct steam pressure and water level in the steam generators by proper operation of the control system; inspecting feed water regulatory controls and gauges; ensuring proper combustion by maintaining the required O2 levels in the exit gasses; maintaining an established chemical program by performing tests and adding the required chemicals to each system and adjusting system blow down rates; operation of all auxiliary equipment associated with steam generation; maintaining correct air pressure by proper adjustments to the air compressors; maintaining the correct chilled water temperature by proper operation of the chillers control system; proper operation of the cooling tower and proper operation of the variable speed chilled water pumps and all associated auxiliary equipment.

Qualifications

There are no specific lengths or level of experience requirements. The applicant's overall background of experience, education and training must clearly demonstrate the ability to perform utility systems repairer operator duties, such as maintaining, repairing, starting, stopping, and operating all the equipment associated with an 8MW Co-generation plant, high pressure steam boiler plant and large industrial chiller plant under the supervision of the Maintenance Supervisor or equivalent. Applicants Must possess or be able to pass EPA Universal CFC Certification within 6 months of starting employment. Applicants must meet the screen out elements and achieve an overall score of at least fifty (50%) or higher Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done.
