You will serve as an IT SPECIALIST (SYSTEMS ADMINISTRATION) located in the Software Management Branch (N642), Systems Integration Division (N64), Information Technology Department (N6), Naval Oceanographic Office at Stennis Space Center, Mississippi of NAVOCEANO BAY ST LOUIS.

Duties

You will be responsible for planning and scheduling the installation of new and modified hardware and software. You will be responsible for monitoring the performance, capacity, availability, serviceability and recoverability of the installed systems. You will be responsible for managing the installation and integration of security and system patches, updates and enhancements. You will be responsible for designing and developing new or unique software diagnostics and testing methodology for resolving new and unparalleled hardware, software or communication problems across multi-system environments. You will be responsible for recommending proper use of operating system and supporting software for all levels of management, as well as customer programming and analysis staff. You will be responsible for investigating and evaluating new developments in computer systems and hardware and software architecture. You will be responsible for performing system administration tasks to ensure cybersecurity compliance and operational availability of systems and software. You will be responsible for managing and maintaining the IT environment supported by the N64 division while following all necessary guidance, policies, and procedures.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • This position is designated as a Cyber IT/Cybersecurity Workforce position. You must obtain and maintain the credentials as described in SECNAV M-5239.2 for specialty area 451 level INTERMEDIATE within 12 months of appointment.
  • This is a bargaining unit position.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.

  • This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate: Experience with system and software administration tasks such as installing, patching, configuring, integrating, testing and monitoring of web servers, geospatial web applications and relational database management systems (RDBMS) on Linux or Windows operating systems. Experience maintaining cybersecurity compliance of software according to the organization guidelines and requirements. Experience evaluating and implementing compliance strategies for information assurance vulnerabilities (IAVs), and monitoring system to ensure operational availability. Experience performing software administration duties required to maintain cybersecurity compliance of the ESRI ArcGIS products and database systems and serving as a technical expert for ESRI ArcGIS products including ArcGIS Enterprise, ArcServer, and Commercial Joint Mapping Toolkit (CJMTK). Experience maintaining cybersecurity compliance for Microsoft windows servers and installing middleware software components such as ESRI ArcGIS Servers and installing and configuring web server Internet Information Services (IIS) on Microsoft Windows Servers. Experience troubleshooting, security performance monitoring, and backup and data recovery and managing system and server resources including performance capacity, availability, serviceability, and recoverability. Your experience must reflect skill in the following areas: attention to detail, customer service, oral communication, and problem solving.
