Duties
This position serves as an Assistant Field Manager in the Canyon Country District.
Supervises subordinate employees, including setting performance goals; planning, assigning and appraising work; advising and mentoring employees; and arranging needed training.
Develops recruitment documents and leads the selection process for vacant positions.
Promotes internal and external communication and coordination, including with local interest groups, individuals, users, the general public, State and local government and other Federal personnel.
Participates as a key member of the field office management team and serves as Acting Field manager under a formal delegation of authority, in the absence of the Field Manager.

To qualify at the GS-12 level you must meet the following:
Specialized Experience: Applicants must possess one (1) full year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 level comparable in difficulty and complexity to perform the duties of an Assistant Field Manager. Qualifying specialized experience includes: planning, implementing or administering recreation programs involving the management of public lands; applying federal laws, regulations, policies and guidelines sufficient to planning, developing or implementing administrative and recreation programs; providing internal and external communication or coordination with such groups as the general public, local interest groups, or State, local or Federal government; and planning, organizing or assigning work to others.
Please note there are no educational substitutions at this grade level.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.
Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade requirement in accordance with 5 CFR 300.604. If you are a current Federal employee in the General Schedule (GS) pay plan and applying for a promotion opportunity, you must have completed a minimum of 52 weeks at the next lower grade level.
Physical Demands: Work is primarily in an office setting. There is frequent travel to field sites via four wheel drive vehicles, fixed wing aircraft, helicopter, and boats. There is a potential for adverse climatic conditions. Field work involves walking, bending and climbing on steep and rough terrain.
Work Environment: Most work is in an office setting. Field sites involve exposure to adverse weather, i.e., rain, snow, cold and/or heat. Some outdoor work requires special safety precautions. Incumbent will adhere to all safety rules and regulations as prescribed in manuals/supplements or by the designated Safety Officer.
