You will serve as a SUPERVISORY NUCLEAR ENGINEER in the Equipment Branch (KSO) (Code 2370B.2), Nuclear Refueling Engineering Division (2370), Nuclear Engineering and Planning Department (Code 2300) of NORFOLK NAVAL SHIPYARD.
Duties
You will serve as Equipment Branch Head responsible for the planning, engineering and coordination of production required to carry out such projects to satisfactory conclusion.
You will provide direct administrative and technical supervision of work accomplished to a subordinate staff.
You will ensure timely completion and quality of work, resolve conflicts and overlapping functions between support personnel and other organization entities and coordinate ethe work of these personnel in the interest of designated objectives.
You will be responsible for supporting and carrying out Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) policies and communicating support of these policies to subordinates.
You will be responsible for the engineering/technical direction of reactor service operations, which provides equipment support to related shipboard preparations, and the execution of and the restoration from reactor refueling.
You will be responsible for the development and implementation of reactor refueling technical and administrative requirements by insuring the systems safe control of the reactor refueling.
You will prepare procedures, standards, specifications, quality inspection requirements and radiological control requirements.
You will serve as a shipyard specialist in nuclear engineering, particularly as applied the reactor plant in the areas of responsibility of the Nuclear Refueling Engineering Division.
You will advise and provide guidance to high-level authority.

- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

Qualifications
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
Experience providing technical supervision and coordination of all activities integral to nuclear facilities and nuclear engineering;
Experience applying advanced theories, concepts, principles and practices of nuclear engineering associated with diverse aspects of nuclear propulsion plants;
Experience effectively communicating both orally and in writing in order to inform, advise, guide or persuade various personnel;
Experience reviewing work submitted by subordinates for accuracy and completion;
Experience analyzing reactor servicing needs to determine necessary changes for nuclear facilities or operational procedures;
Experience planning work sequences, daily schedules, or tests to execute assigned duties.

Education
Applicants must meet the following basic education requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual:
Successful completion of a professional engineering degree. To be acceptable, the program must: (1) lead to a bachelor's degree (or higher) in a school of engineering with at least one program accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET); or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics. Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position.

Current registration as an Engineer Intern (EI), Engineer in Training (EIT), or licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE) by any State, the District of Columbia, Guam, or Puerto Rico. Successful completion of at least 60 semester hours of courses in the physical, mathematical, and engineering sciences and in engineering that included the courses specified in the basic requirements under paragraph A (above). Successful completion of a curriculum leading to a bachelor's degree in an appropriate scientific field, e.g., engineering technology, physics, chemistry, architecture, computer science, mathematics, hydrology, or geology, may be accepted in lieu of a bachelor's degree in engineering, provided the applicant has had at least one year of professional engineering experience acquired under professional engineering supervision and guidance. Ordinarily, there should be either an established plan of intensive training to develop professional engineering competence, or several years of prior professional engineering-type experience, e.g., in interdisciplinary positions.
