About the Position: Competition for Security Guard positions is restricted by law to those entitled to Veterans Preference so long as such applicants are available for appointment. Applications will be accepted from those without veterans preference BUT will only be considered if there are no applicants with veterans preference available. A current, permanent Army employee without veteran's preference may be selected under merit promotion procedures (promotion, reassignment, etc).

Duties

Develop training courses based on regulatory requirements. Supervise training for guard personnel in the use of weapons, protection against espionage, sabotage, suppression of riots, demonstrations and disorders, traffic and crowd control, etc. Set organizational goal and develop strategies to achieve targets while considering resource requirements. Apply requirements for equipping and securing government and contractor facilities to guard against unauthorized access to ensure continuity of operations. Manage workforce to include, organizing work, evaluating work performance, and ensuring staff is appropriately selected, utilized, and developed. Manage training and education for individuals and groups within learning environments to include tailoring instruction to ensure learners' needs are met and learning outcomes are achieved. Perform access control duties to grant access to the installation, as needed.

Requirements

  • This position has been designated Mission Essential. In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Must be willing to serve a one year Supervisory probationary period, if not previously completed.
  • Must meet the requirements under the Lautenberg Amendment/Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968. Persons convicted of domestic violence are not eligible for this position.
  • Must not have any medical condition that precludes the wearing of a chemical protective mask and over garments.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid state driver's license.
  • Must maintain physical conditioning and pass an initial and annual physical ability test (PAT). This consists of a 1.5 mile run in 17:30 and performing 19 push-ups in 2 minutes.
  • Must wear chemical protection masks, gloves, and other protective equipment when needed and may be required to be certified in the use of aerosol irritants and baton.
  • Must be trained and maintain current required certifications in CPR techniques and First Aid.
  • Must successfully complete security guard training and must be proficient in the use of assigned firearms/weapons, pass an initial qualification, and must qualify semi-annually thereafter in the use of assigned firearms/weapons.
  • Must undergo and pass an initial and annual medical exams of physical, emotional and mental stability.
  • Shift work is required, or a change in work shift may be necessary. Hours of work encompass fluctuating tours of duty to include evenings, nights, weekends and holidays. Overtime may be required. Subject to recall for periods of emergency overtime.
  • Drug testing designated position. Individual agrees to submit to a urinalysis on a recurring basis, in accordance with (IAW) AR 600-85.
  • Must be able to meet the requirements of the Individual Reliability Program.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain eligibility at the Secret level using a Tier 3 background investigation.
  • Employee must be able to perform as a member of the installation’s overall security response capability. The duties require the employee to carry and deploy a riot baton, carry a protective shield and employ non-lethal ammunitions if necessary.
