About the Position: The incumbent serves as Chief of Guards and is primarily responsible for overseeing twenty four hour protective measures for the installation.
NOTE: Competition for Security Guard positions is restricted by law to persons entitled to veterans' preference as long as such applicants are available for appointment.
Duties
As a Supervisory Security Guard, you will be responsible for the following:
Prepare work schedules to ensure essential coverage of guard posts, assuring continuity of operations of all shifts, instructs subordinate Lead guards.
Actively participate in the planning of work priorities and required minimal staffing requirements to meet security objectives.
Direct the protection of government property against hazards of damage, theft, trespassing, espionage, physical security, antiterrorism and crime prevention.
Inspect areas and equipment for serviceability and examine security functions/procedures for effectiveness and compliance
Prepare and/or administer the budget for program areas; and, monitor expenditures to ensure cost-effective support of programs and policies.
Requirements
- Must possess or be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance for the duration of employment.
- Incumbent must be able to obtain and sustain state certification for operating the NCIC terminals.
- Position is a drug testing-designated position and will require incumbent to sign a DA 5019 Condition of Employment. Individual must agree to submit to a urinalysis on a recurring basis.
- Shift work is required, or a change in work shift may be necessary. Fluctuating tours of duty to include evenings, nights, week-ends and holidays. Overtime may be required as directed and is subject to recall for periods of emergency overtime.
- Incumbent must be proficient in the use of assigned firearms/weapons, pass an initial qualification, and must qualify semi-annually thereafter in the use of firearms/weapons.
- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
- Incumbent must pass the record Physical Ability Test (PAT) within 90 days of the hiring date and must pass the PAT annually thereafter.
- Temporary duty travel (5% or less) away from the normal duty station may be required.
- Must possess or be able to obtain and maintain a valid state issued Driver's License.
- This position has been designated "Mission Essential". In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
- Criminal History Background Check required.
- This position is subject to the provisions of the Domestic Violence Offender Gun Ban commonly referred to as the Lautenberg Amendment.
- 1 year Supervisory Probation period may be required.
- Due to the nature of this position, employees are required to work both planned and unscheduled overtime.
- This position is covered by the Individual Reliability Program (IRP) and has been designated by the Department of Army as critical to the national or internal security.
- This position requires wearing a uniform and safety apparel in accordance with established policies and procedures.
- This position requires certification in cardiopulmonary resuscitation with Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) training.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). Specialized Experience required:
Current or former Federal employee serving on a career or career conditional appointment only: One year of specialized experience which includes experience directing the work of a protective security force, controlling movement of personnel and assets across access points, administering training based on approved training courses and regulatory requirements, evaluating employee performance, and preparing reports for senior leader review. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-08).
Other than current or former Federal employees: One year of specialized experience which includes experience ensuring work of subordinate personnel is completed, accurate, and within standards; controlling access to restricted areas; maintaining security measures to protect property and personnel; AND assisting with the scheduling, approving, and developing training to ensure training requirements of guard personnel are met. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09).
