About the Position: This position is located in the Fort Riley Directorate of Emergency Services, Police/Provost Marshal Division, Combined Dispatch Operations Center at Fort Riley, Kansas.
Duties
Responsible for the control of all emergency response patrols (fire, police, and ambulance) to include, the dispatching of, rendering assistance/guidance to, and the supplying of critical information to patrol unit.
Immediately determine the nature of the calls received to initiate necessary actions by relaying messages, dispatching, and assisting emergency services vehicles in response to both emergency and non-emergency calls.
Perform work in a highly stressful, restricted office environment.
Accountable for the proper dispatch of emergency forces.
Operate telephone systems (to include Enhanced 911 emergency and non-emergency networks).
Utilize a detailed knowledge of emergency procedures, to include but not limited to, basic medical response (First Aid) and extensive ability-to operate calmly in a stressful, fluid, non-standard, critical problem solving environment.
Prepare police blotters and other associated police and emergency response reports and filing.
Coordinate work accomplishment, priorities, and procedures.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Incumbent must obtain and maintain a successful background investigation.
- Position is mission essential.
- This position requires working rotating shifts, weekends and holidays.
- This is a drug testing designated position and the incumbent is subject to periodic urinalysis drug testing.
- The incumbent must undergo and pass a physical examination
- The incumbent must receive and maintain certification in first-aid.
- Wearing of a uniform is required.
- Incumbent will be required to train and certify through the state of Kansas on the Kansas Criminal Information Computer (KCIC) system.
- Incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain, within 6 months of employment, the Basic Telecommunicator I and II (or equivalent) and DoD Hazmat Awareness level certification.
- The incumbent must receive and maintain, within 6 months, Basic Life Support (BLS) and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience.
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes determining the nature of emergency and non-emergency calls received, dispatching and assisting emergency vehicles with critical information pertaining to the emergency call, providing basic medical response such as first aid or CPR instructions, AND using a computer aided dispatch system to enter pertinent information. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).
Proficiency Required: This position requires a qualified typist. A qualified typist can type 40 words per minute based on a 5 minute sample with three or fewer errors.
