Duties
The selectee will serve as aLead Public Affairs Specialist in the Office of the Director. Typical work assignments include:
Plan, organize, direct, and execute, on a national level, activities with a nexus to news media in support of major Secret Service missions, programs, and projects
Serve as coordinator for information programs on sensitive issues.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with members of the news media, specialized groups interested in the organizations programs and field offices
Design strategic approaches that best convey messages to the intended audience.
Coordinate and direct the activities of a multi-functional teams relating to Visual Information and Audio program management topics.
Qualifications
You qualify for the GS-14 level (starting salary $139,395.00) if you possess one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-13 level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors) performing the following duties:
Providing public affairs guidance to staff or management of an organization with responsibility strategies to establish, maintain and enhance relationships;
Preparing responses to public/media inquiries at the national or international level;
Developing communication program policies and procedures as they pertain to public affairs issues related to public safety or law enforcement organizations;
Leading or directing the work of a team and/or subordinate staff in support of public or external affairs efforts (i.e. assigning work, developing performance standards, making authoritative decisions regarding personnel actions, etc.).

Time-in-Grade Requirements: Under competitive merit promotion procedures, any individual who is currently holding, or who has held within the previous 52 weeks, a General Schedule position under a non-temporary appointment in the competitive or excepted service, must meet "time-in-grade" requirements (have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade of the grade for which you are applying). NOTE: All current or former Federal employees must provide a copy of their SF-50 (you may need to submit more than one), "Notice of Personnel Action" that indicates proof of status and time-in-grade eligibility. The SF-50 must include your position, title, series, grade, step, tenure (1 or 2), and type of service (Competitive or Excepted).

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
