About the Position: This position is located at Aguadilla, Puerto Rico All candidates must reside within the local commuting area where the position is located. Local commuting area is defined as the geographic area surrounding a work site that encompasses the localities where people live and reasonably can be expected to travel back and forth daily to work based on the generally held expectations of the local community. (5 CFR 575.203)

Duties

Assists in planning overall leave schedules, and recommends approval or disapproval of special leave requests. Interview or review applications of new applicants for jobs in the unit and recommend employment. Reviews new work orders and progress in completing current work. Determines the availability of workers with the needed skills to accomplish the work. Provides verbal and written reports on the status of work including any backlogs, the number of workers, and/or the kinds of skills being used. Requests authorization by higher supervisors of personnel, equipment, materials and tools which may be needed. Makes minor deviations in procedures and methods to overcome equipment failure or delays in receipt of materials. Indicates methods to be used and explains the more difficult technical requirements of the tasks to be performed. Helps in achieving difficult or unusual layout, setup, or other work steps and processes.

Requirements

• Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Requirement.
• Proof of U.S. Citizenship required.
• Direct deposit of pay is required.
• One year trial or probationary period may be required.
• Appointment subject to a suitability /fitness determination, as determined by a background investigation.
• One year supervisory probation period may be required.

The position requires considerable standing, stooping, walking, climbing on ladders and scaffolds which require him/her to work overhead or in stretched, cramped, or awkward positions. Arm work is considerable when washing walls, Venetian blinds, chalk boards, changing light fixtures and replacing ballasts. The employee is required to lift objects weighing between 50 and 100 pounds. Working Conditions: Works outside in all kinds of weather and inside in areas that may be dusty, dirty, noisy and have other adverse working conditions. The equipment, tools and tasks involved frequently require special care to avoid serious injuries. Occasionally, is exposed to skin irritations from strong cleaning solutions used in stripping floors, etc. and to serious injuries (e.g., broken bones) from falls from ladders and scaffolds.
