About the Position: Student Trainee (Engineering and Architecture position with the Amry Corps of Engineers, Albuquerque District. This position is being filled under the Direct Hire Authority for Post-Secondary Students and Recent Graduates.

Duties

Assists in the collection, preparation and assembly of interrelated project data. Assists higher graded employees in the preparation of specific elements or phases of larger systems. Processes data according to wide range of methods and designated formulas. Performs a variety of tabulations and computations relating to the mission of the incumbent's assigned area. Uses standard formulas applicable to civil, structural, hydraulic, geotechnical and architectural aspects of larger projects to cross-check computations made by others. Drafts replies to miscellaneous correspondence, preparing fact sheets, and assisting in revising a variety of reports to reflect the comments of others.

Requirements

  • A trial or probationary period may be required in accordance with agency policy.
  • A post-secondary student appointment expires 120 days after completion of the designated academic course of study, unless the student is selected for noncompetitive conversion.
  • Business travel (TDY) of 10% may be required.
  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.

Qualifications

Who May Apply: To be eligible for consideration you must meet the definition of post-secondary student as defined below: Post-Secondary Student: a person who, (1) is currently enrolled in, and in good academic standing at, a full-time program at an institution of higher education; and (2) is making satisfactory progress towards receipt of a baccalaureate or graduate degree; and (3) has completed at least one year of the program. In order to qualify, you must meet the education requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant education and experience. Additional information about transcripts is in this document. This Internship is for current students in good standing at an accredited education. For this internship, you must be able to work full-time.This intern position is designed to prepare a student trainee for employment after graduation as a General Engineer, Architectural Engineer. Interns will be assigned tasks designed to increase familiarity with the target occupation in a real-world work environment. This is an Intern position that is expected to last more than 1-year. The end date of this appointment will be specified in the Pathways Participant Agreement with the Intern. This opportunity follows a standard promotional path: Internship selection will be made at the GS-02, GS-03, or GS-04 grade level. These grade levels are what typical college students in their first or second year may qualify. Within 120 days after completion of Internship requirements, you may be eligible for conversion to the entry-level for the target occupation. Entry level for these positions are typically at the GS-05 grade level. The actual grade level at the time of conversion depends on academic achievement and other factors. The full performance level of this position is GS-04. Progression from the entry-level to the full performance level for this occupation will depend on successful completion of all requirements for promotion. Promotions may be considered after a year at each grade level, but are not guaranteed to occur on a specific time schedule.

Post-secondary students being considered for initial appointments to positions leading to target positions with positive education requirements should be enrolled in directly-related degree programs in order to meet the OPM qualification requirements for the target position upon completion of their academic program.
