This position is located in the Department of Homeland Security, United States Coast Guard, Eighth Coast Guard District, Sector Mobile, in Mobile, AL.

Duties

The position is located in the Logistics Department at Sector Mobile and serves the Production Controller for Sector Mobile and assigned facilities in the AOR. The incumbent manages multiple staff and is involved in the planning and execution of approximately $1 million for major repairs and improvements annually, and also oversees the following divisions: Public Works, Environmental, Motor Pool, Ground Maintenance, and Janitorial. Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team.  Typical work assignments include:- Manages facilities planning, management, maintenance, and repair, and oversees grounds maintenance and upkeep, which includes GSA vehicles, forklifts, cranes, and other heavy-weight handling equipment.- Develops annual plan for the division and serves as approving official for purchase requests, including (PRESS) and (FSMS), the Coast Guard's financial accounting systems.- Serves as an on-site inspector and as the Contracting Officer's Technical Representative for various contracted projects, fulfilling Quality Assurance (QA) responsibilities.- Monitors and tracks maintenance activities, identifies recurring issues, and reallocates resources to address continual problems or deficiencies prior to submitting Shore Station Maintenance Requests (SSMRs).- Plans and schedules the work for subordinates, prioritizing tasks, and assessing their performance.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • A one-year probationary period may be required.
  • Males born after 12/31/1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • This position requires a National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI)
  • The position requires a valid state driver's license.
  • Required to be Level II FAC-COR Certified within one year of employment

Qualifications

Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level in the Federal service.Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work. Examples of specialized experience includes identifying and implementing production of project management improvements; making small purchases using the government credit card while estimating various needs of shops to accomplish the work, duration and sequence in which work will be performed.National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience): Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
