OHA provides an independent forum for the fair, impartial, equitable, and timely resolution of certain disputes involving the U.S. Department of Education.

Qualifications
BASIC REQUIREMENTS:
Education: Applicants must have a first professional law degree (Juris Doctor (J.D.) or Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.)) obtained from a law school accredited by the American Bar Association at the time the degree was obtained.
AND
Licensure: Applicants must be an active member in good standing of the bar of a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. Supporting documentation must be included with the application package.
AND
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE FOR GS-14 GRADE LEVEL:
One year of experience in either federal or non-federal service that is equivalent to at least a GS-13 performing two (2) out of three (3) of the following duties or work assignments:
Experience communicating, orally and in writing, complicated legal rules, procedures, and matters in a way that is understandable to both attorneys and non-attorneys.
Experience presenting legal advice, legal options, and their ramifications to Judges, senior attorneys, or other senior executives.
Experience using research strategies and techniques sufficient to fully develop legal issues where no clearly applicable precedents are available, or it is arguable which among conflicting precedents apply.
Applicants must meet all qualification requirements, including the following, by closing date of this announcement:
Be a graduate of a law school accredited by the American Bar Association at the time of graduation.
Be a current member of a bar with a valid license to practice law in a state or territory of the United States, the District of Columbia, or the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico.
Have at least four years of post-J.D./LL.B. legal experience.
Education
Education cannot be substituted for experience for this position and grade level.
