The primary purpose of this position is to manage all aspects of information systems to include acquisition, support, training, and installations for an organization.
Duties
Administers information systems. Monitors ongoing operation of network systems to ensure hardware and software are functioning properly and that operational standards are met.
Serves as project officer for recommending selection of and installing new computer systems and software, and maintaining all computer systems.
Administers the computer security program.
Provides training and assistance to customers.

- Information Assurance Certification is a CoE. IA work is a paramount duty requirement. Failure to receive proper IA certification may result in removal from position. Cert level for this position is: IAT Level II with IA functions performed: Primary.
- Per DoD 8570.1-M, the incumbent of this position must achieve the appropriate IA certification within six months of assignment to these duties. A waiver of this six-month requirement may be granted per DoD 8570.01-M, C3.2.4.S.2 or C3.2.4.3.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a secret security clearance.
- A pre-employment physical may be required.
Qualifications

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-08, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes: Utilizing current system software supported at the organization to include operating system and application software packages; applying a wide range of analytical and diagnostic methods, procedures, and principles to identify system failures, take corrective actions, and implement procedures to allow for partial use until problems are resolved; utilizing computer equipment, internal computer processes, application/utility programs, and magnetic media; and troubleshooting and resolving problems with information systems equipment located in the organization.
FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-08 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-09 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. NOTE: Applicants applying as VEOA candidates who are current GS civil service employees or are prior GS civil service employees within the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
Knowledge of DoD and Air Force automated data processing and networking standards, policies, and techniques.
Knowledge of computer hardware and software systems and their interfaces; and higher level programming languages comparable to COBOL and FORTRAN and other job control languages.
Knowledge of data content and output options for a variety of administrative, scientific and/or technical program applications that are processed on any of several multi-program operating systems.
Knowledge of facility environment and infrastructure to support computer systems.
Ability to use and maintain a computer system, equipment, and software; analyze computer network, software, and hardware problems and develop effective and economical solutions; and train users on new computer systems.
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
