The primary purpose of this position is to manage all aspects of information systems, Wide Area Network (WAN), Local Area Network (LAN) support, and systems training for the 60th Maintenance Group (MXG). Manages AMC Contracted Engineer Support.
Duties
Administers and maintains Maintenance Group information systems hardware. Verifies all equipment attachments and power support items are approved and in compliance with existing regulations/directives, and vendor specifications.
Responsible for identifying, installing, and managing software upgrade requirements. Supports critical MXG Etool program by distributing and maintaining tech refresh.
Provides guidance, assistance, and training to customers. Provides on-going technical advice and guidance to internal/external customers regarding operations/maintenance of systems hardware/software and a various routine computer issues.
Serves as the Maintenance Group network security officer. Plans and implements security plans, procedures, and training to comply with Department of Defense (DoD), Air Force, and Installation standards.

- Work may occasionally require travel away from the normal duty station on military or commercial aircraft.
- This position may include information assurance (IA) work as an additional duty. Per DoD 8570.01-M, the recipient of this additional duty must achieve the appropriate IA certification within six months of assignment of these duties.
- A waiver of this six-month requirement may be granted per DoD 8570.01-M, C3.2.4.2 or C3.2.4.3. Failure to receive the proper IA certification may result in the reassignment of this additional duty to another employee within the organization.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret Clearance.
- The position requires extended periods of standing, walking, stretching, bending, stooping, or carrying of loads of paper, tapes, or cards that may weigh as much as 20 kilograms (45 pounds). A pre-employment physical is required.
Qualifications
In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Clerical and Administrative Support Positions, GS-09
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-08, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes knowledge of LAN/WAN principles and practices sufficient to troubleshoot and maintain the stability of communication lines and equipment. Knowledge of LAN/WAN standards and equipment sufficient to install, configure, and troubleshoot LAN and WAN components such as routers, hubs, switches, and servers. Knowledge of network principles, concepts, equipment, and tools sufficient to assist in planning and maintaining network services; to install, test, and configure workstations and peripherals; and to instruct customers in accessing network services. Knowledge of configuration management concepts and life cycle management concepts sufficient to identify the need to upgrade or enhance network component capabilities in response to network problems and deficiencies. Knowledge of customer support principles sufficient to receive, respond to, and ensure resolution of problems. Knowledge of methods and procedures for documenting problem analysis and resolutions sufficient to maintain records of activities. Knowledge of network use and maintenance sufficient to give needed guidance or training to customers to prevent problem recurrences and to assist more experienced specialists in resolving very complex problems. Knowledge of safety and security regulations, practices, and procedures.
FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-08 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-09 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. NOTE: Applicants applying as VEOA candidates who are current GS civil service employees or are prior GS civil service employees within the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
Knowledge of DoD and Air Force automated data processing and networking standards, policies, and techniques.
Knowledge of computer hardware and software systems and their interfaces, higher level programming languages, and other job control languages.
Knowledge of information processing sequences, controls, and procedures to provide user support.
Knowledge of facility environment and infrastructure to support computer systems.
Ability to use and maintain computer systems, equipment, and software; analyze computer network, software, and hardware problems; develop effective and economical solutions; and train users on new computer systems.
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
