About the Position: Serves as a Linguist/Interpreter for the Army Expeditionary Civilian Workforce (AECW) supporting the Combined Joint Task Force Operation Inherent Resolve (CJTF-OIR) in an overseas deployed theater. Assists the CJTF-OIR in translating Russian communications received in the Russian Deconfliction Cell. This includes both written and verbal. Position is Emergency-Essential (E-E). Must meet and maintain all conditions of E-E status.
Duties
Serve as a Linguist/Interpreter supporting the Combined Joint Task Force Operation Inherent Resolve in an overseas deployed theater.
Provide the critical simultaneous translation to/from Russian to English.
Attend meetings and conferences to provide translations and cultural advice to the Commander and maintains continuing coordination with US Forces and Task Force team in support of the Russian Deconfliction Cell (RDC) mission.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Top-Secret Clearance.
- Temporary duty (TDY) may be required but varies per location. TDY business travel approximately 75% of the time.
- May require an extended work schedule of 12-hour days, five to seven days a week, and rotating shifts.
- May require the employee to work in austere conditions, outside in inclement weather, and/or in tents.
- The ability to travel to deployed locations for an extended period (e.g., 6-12 months) with minimal advance notice (e.g., 48 hours).
- Completion of deployment training requirements and annual re-validation.
- Agreement to obtain and maintain a valid Official Passport.
- Completion of pre and post-deployment health assessments.
- Understanding that you may be subject to the Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ) while deployed to contingency operations.
- Understanding that you are expected to remain in a combat zone after evacuation of nonessential personnel.
- Completion of a Department of Defense (DD) Form 2365, DoD Expeditionary Civilian Agreement -Emergency Essential Positions at the time of employment and annually thereafter.
- Understanding that you are subject to reassignment or separation from Federal Service if you fail to meet and maintain these conditions of employment.
- Per AR 600-85, Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Program, employee must successfully pass a urinalysis screening for illegal drug use prior to appointment and periodically thereafter.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience.
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes experience assisting with interpreting/translating to/from Russian language into the English language and vice versa; assist with translating (written) and interpreting (oral) technical documents and discussions / negotiations from Russian to English and English to Russian and applying customs, courtesies, protocol, and culture in a government, business or legal setting. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.

- In accordance with Army Regulation (AR) 690-11, this position has been designated as Emergency-Essential and is subject to deployment to any location world-wide in support of U.S. Forces engaged in contingency operations, combat missions, hostilities, or other expeditionary missions.
- The ability to complete a pre-employment physical, meet the medical standards for deployment to any combatant command, and maintain this medical readiness on a continuing basis. At a minimum, annual revalidation of medical deployability is required.
- The skills, abilities, and medical and psychological fitness to be successful in high pressure and austere operational environments and to demonstrate the highest professional and ethical behavior to maintain a deployment environment characterized by good order, discipline and conduct.
