Duties

You will serve as training instructor and resource person in the instructional areas of law and evidence, terrorism, laws of arrest, search and seizure, firearm training and qualifications, basic criminology, accident investigation, You will research on a continuous basis to ensure the most up-to-date material and information is provided to students. Determine the most effective ways and means of teaching course curriculum. You will conduct lecture, discussion, guide conference and demonstration methods to present law enforcement, investigative techniques, procedures, and practical application sessions. You will develop performance objectives and Standards to aide in properly identifying training needs and requirements of each student. You will ensure the knowledge and skills are developed in the most current concepts and techniques in the field of law enforcement and security IAW MCOs, local requirements, and minimum training standards. You will research, locate, and obtain applicable course material. Works closely with staff at Marine Corps Law Enforcement Training Academy and Military Police course to compile and analyze material to supplement his/her course instruction. You will coordinate, develop, and maintain effective relationships with the training community of various Federal, State, and Local law enforcement, intelligence, and security agencies. You will perform general law enforcement activities such as assisting the investigation of crimes, processing accident scenes, collecting evidence, and responding to emergency calls, complaints and other calls for service during the watch.

Requirements

  • Must be a US Citizen. Must be determined suitable for federal employment. Must participate in the direct deposit pay program. You must be at least 18 years of age. Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.

  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.
  • Work includes assignment to rotating shift, including weekends/holidays. Position is subject to 24 hour recall and maintain a 24 hour recall notification number and is required to respond. Call back and emergency overtime are required.
  • Must pass all weapons qualifications tests prior to assigned duties and responsibilities and must pass all re-qualifications. You must meet the qualifications and be certified to carry a firearm. You will need to maintain firearm proficiency.
  • Must pass sanctioned physical agility test and medical evaluation and pass periodic retests. Must maintain program height and weight appearance standards. Must meet medical standards for police officers in DoD 6055.05M and NMCPHC-TM OM 6260.
  • You must possess and maintain a valid state driver's license and be able to maintain a U.S. Government emergency vehicle operator's license.
  • This is a Department of Navy Drug Testing Designated Position (TDP). Requires applicant to undergo pre-employment urinalysis requirements and sustainment drug testing.
  • This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968. You will be required to sign a DD-Form-2760, Qualification to possess firearms or ammunition.
  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.
  • Must be able to read, write and speak English. Must pass a National Agency Check and local background check. Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance.
  • This position does not meet the definition of Law Enforcement Officer (LEO) and is excluded from coverage as an LEO for purposes of the Federal Retirement System-Base Annuity IAW 5 CFR, Part 842, Subprt
  • You must meet the qualifications and be certified to carry a firearm. You will need to maintain firearm proficiency.
  • Must be able to use all police equipment, certify in the use of radar detection and alcohol detection equipment, field sobriety tests, expandable or collapsible baton and obtain certs required to accomplish the duties of a law enforcement officer.
  • This is a Mission Essential position. Overtime may be required. Must wear uniform and maintain appearance and grooming standards per Marine Corps Orders/policies.
  • Must successfully complete the Marine Corps Range Safety Officer Course and Basic Instructor Certification Course within 1 year from date of employment.
  • Must successfully complete National Incident Management System (NIMS), IS-300, IS-200 and IS-700 within 2 years from the date of employment.
  • May be required to respond to off base circumstances as directed by the Installation commander, in accordance with USMC and DoD policy.
  • You will be required to wear a uniform and maintain appearance and grooming standards per Marine Corps Orders/policies.
  • Failure to meet conditions of employment may result in disciplinary action or termination.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-08) or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector: Developing and providing training and classroom instruction of law enforcement equipment usage and application techniques, and law enforcement procedures while performing law enforcement duties; responding to emergency calls, complaints and other calls for service during the watch; enforcing traffic laws and issuing citations for violation such as speeding, reckless driving, and driving under the influence; subduing and disarming those who are doing violence to other persons; assisting the injured and administering first aid; gathering and analyzing facts; seizing and protecting evidence; taking witness statements; advising violators of rights.
