Office. The mission of the Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) is to provide federal leadership and assistance in support of state and local criminal justice
strategies to achieve safe communities; BJA's overall goals are to reduce violent crime, create safer communities, and reform the U.S. criminal justice system.
Duties
Serves as a Special Assistant within in the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ), Office of Justice Programs (OJP), Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA), Programs Office.
Serves as staff writer for the Deputy Director's written products and presentations.
Researches, reviews, edits and rewrites content to effectively explain and interpret a variety of complex and potentially controversial policies, programs, issues, and activities.
Analyzes a wide range of primary source materials to ensure the Deputy Director is accurately and objectively informed and prepared for decision-making.
Manages special projects, providing advice to senior management on major program issues related to policy.
Conducts comprehensive analyses of current OJP initiatives, gathers input and guidance, and provides feedback.

Qualifications
Selective Placement/Screen Out Factor:
Experience conducting grant data analysis, synthesizing data and information for decision making, and preparing grant performance talking points, papers, and presentations.
Specialized Experience:
Applicants must have one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-13 level. Specialized experience is experience which is in or related to the line of work of the position to be filled and which has equipped the applicant with the specific knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position.
Examples of specialized experience include:
Prepares speeches, talking points, statements, and/or other related documents for leaders and other officials for addressing policy matters before audiences, such as office staff, congressional staff, and/or Members of Congress.
Participates in policy formulation and/or participating in liaison activities for office-wide programs.
Researches and/or writes reports or other documents on program issues providing expert guidance and analysis.
Plans, organizes, and/or completes analytical studies on issues related to key office programs.
