This position is being recruited under 10 USC 1599f into the Cyber Excepted Service and does NOT convey eligibility to be converted to the Competitive Service. It has been identified as a position necessary to carry out and support the mission of the US Cyber Command.
It is in the Professional Work Category at the Full Performance Work Level within the CES Occupational Structure. It is located in the DISA-Pacific, Operations Division, Ford Island Hawaii.
Duties
Participates in technical exchanges with a wide variety of DoD organizations, commercial contractors and other individuals in the development and assessment where incidents require crisis planning and action.
Creates, reviews, and deploys signatures based on the SNORT, Suricata, and Yara rule detection sets. Configures and applies sensor policies and updates as needed.
Develops systems security contingency plans and disaster recovery procedures to identified Information Security (INFOSEC) vulnerabilities and prepares appropriate alerts for dissemination of critical INFOSEC information INDOPACOM-wide.
Furnishes technical advice, guidance, and assistance to the Defensive Cyber Operations Branch Chief, other staff officers, divisions and other agencies on matters pertaining to computer and network security.
Requirements

- This national security position, which may require access to classified information, requires a favorable suitability review and security clearance as a condition of employment. Failure to maintain security eligibility may result in termination.
- This is a drug test position requiring pre-employment and random drug testing.
- This position is subject to Cyber Workforce requirements as defined by the DoD 8140 policy series for the position's required CYBER Work Role(s).
- This position requires the incumbent to travel away from their normal duty station to other locations within the continental United States (CONUS) up to 25 percent of the time.
- This position requires a Top Secret/Sensitive Compartmented Information (TS/SCI) security clearance.
- The employee must be willing and able to travel on military and commercial aircraft.
- This is a Mission Essential position.
- The employee is required to work other than normal duty hours, which may include evenings, weekends, and/or holidays.
- The employee may be required to work overtime on an emergency basis.
- This position requires the employee to drive a motor vehicle. An appropriate, valid driver's license is required for the position.
Qualifications
In order to qualify for this position, you must meet the requirements described below.
Qualifying Experience:
To qualify at the GG-12, your resume must describe at least one year of experience that demonstrates the competencies necessary for immediate success in the position. Experience refers to any paid or unpaid experience, including volunteer work and Military service, that would be considered equivalent to work normally performed at the next lower grade level in the federal service.
For this position, qualifying experience is defined as:
Experience with cyber-security countermeasures and detection capabilities such as SNORT, Suricata and YARA in the assessment of security events to determine impact and implementation of corrective actions for automated information systems and networks.
