You will serve as a NUCLEAR MECHANICAL SYSTEMS INSPECTOR (SHIPS) LEADER in the Nuclear Inspection Division of the Quality Assurance Office of NORFOLK NAVAL SHIPYARD.

Duties
You will perform mechanical, piping, and structural inspections, material inspections, test inspections, certification and acceptance of work on nuclear reactor plant, refueling, and overhaul work.
You will use special measuring and inspection devices such as: precision micrometers, precision gauge blocks, heise gauges, durometer testers, thread gauges, borescopes, and vernier calipers.
You will document reactor grade cleanliness of shipboard systems by performing surveillance inspections and performing final inspection prior to final system closure.
You will perform weld joint in-process and acceptance inspections for nuclear welding and non-destructive tests (NDT).
You will maintain records of inspections performed, results of these inspections, and corrective action taken in accordance with local directives.

- You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
- Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
- You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
- This is a bargaining unit position.
- You will be required to complete ethics orientation within three months of appointment and submit a Confidential Financial Disclosure Report, OGE-450, within 30 days of appointment.
